Optima ramps up latest PC offering with new Intel platform

 • 19 August, 2004 13:53

SYDNEY, Australia – Optima Technology Solutions (ASX:OPI), Australia’s largest computer manufacturer, has launched a new WorkPro PC based on the latest Intel 915G platform offering high-bandwidth interfaces and flexible graphics options.

Optima’s latest WorkPro D9 Series PC delivers enhanced audio and visual capabilities via the Intel 915G Express Chipset, a new desktop platform recently announced by Intel that delivers an innovative range of features ideal for corporate and home users. The 915G is Intel’s Corporate Stable Chipset for 2004 and part of the Intel Stable Image Platform Program (SIPP).

Optima celebrates its 15th anniversary this year, having experienced particular success in the Australian small-to-medium sized business, government and education sectors, where it has been able to deliver both custom built PCs and a standard range of high-performance, low-cost products.

“For 15 years Optima has provided customers with affordable PCs that are of the highest quality. By using the latest Intel technology in our new WorkPro PC, customers have access to components that are usually found in high-end desktops, but at a fraction of the price,” said Joshua Carr, Desktop Product Manager, Optima Technology Solutions.

The Intel 915G Express Chipset features the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 900, which offers enhanced visual quality and a superior graphics performance, that is one and a half times faster than previous offerings. This is all delivered without the additional cost, noise and power that discrete graphics cards often require. GMA900 features up to 224MB dynamic shared memory, DirectX 9 and OpenGL 1.4 support, and offers high-end features such as Pixel Shader 2.0 and Vertex Shader support. This technology is designed to support high definition video/TV and dual independent display, as well as providing superior display modes for widescreen LCDs.

Graphics are also intensified by Intel’s PCI Express architecture, which delivers up to a four times increase over AGP8x bandwidth, for smooth multimedia performance. ADD2 cards can be used for providing business users with dual independent display support all at minimal cost.

Intel High Definition Audio (HDA) is another feature of this platform, delivering near home theatre sound quality for a heightened listening experience. HDA supports higher sampling and quantisation bit-rates and future audio formats such as Dolby, DTS and DVD-Audio. It also has support for future capabilities including 16-element array microphones used for more accurate voice recognition.

For the corporate user, Intel High Definition Audio improves audio constancy via the inclusion of a complete Microsoft stack that delivers more OS stability and base functionality. Business collaboration and communications are improved through higher bandwith and better voice input quality for improved voice-over-IP, conferencing and speech recognition.

This PC includes the latest Intel Pentium 4 CPUs with HyperThreading based on the new LGA775 socket with 1MB of cache memory, the highest performing of the Intel processors. This ensures that the WorkPro PC delivers increased system memory for multitasking.

Another major architectural feature of the WorkPro D9 Series PC is the inclusion of four Serial ATA (SATA) ports, the newest high-performance serial I/O interface for ATA storage. SATA I/F enables fast transfer rates up to 150 MB/s and offers improved data integrity and scalability.

Offering customers complete value for their money, the WorkPro D9 Series PC comes complete with a range of software designed to increase the capabilities and efficiency of the unit, including Intel Desktop Utilities, Norton Internet Security, NTI CD-Maker, Musicmatch Jukebox, Sonic Focus, Intervideo Home Theatre-Silver, Intervideo WinDVD Creator Silver and Restore IT Lite.

“The WorkPro D9 Series PC offers an extensive range of features and capabilities, delivering an extremely high level of performance and the most compelling platform architectural change in a decade. With this PC, customers are getting absolute value for money,” said Carr.

The WorkPro D9 Series PC comes with a three-year onsite warranty and is currently available from $1,499 inc GST from Optima and its nationwide dealer network.
