HP tops Australian handheld PC sales

<p>HP most popular handheld device following strong Q1 2004</p>
<p>Sydney, Australia, 2004 – Hewlett-Packard (HP) topped the Australian handheld PC market over the past twelve months (Q2 2003 to Q1 2004), according to IDC Australia's Q1 2004 Smart Handheld Device Tracker. With HP iPAQ Pocket PC products accounting for an impressive 46.1 per cent of handheld devices shipped.</p>
<p>HP accounted for 60.2 per cent of units shipped during Q1 2004, 40 per cent more than the nearest competitor (19.8 per cent). It is the first time in more than a year that a single vendor has held more than 50 per cent of sales during any given quarter.</p>
<p>Julianne Bean, Market Development Manager, iPAQ Pocket PC, HP Australia, said the company was particularly pleased with the continued popularity of HP iPAQ Pocket PCs.</p>
<p>“HP’s wide range of HP iPAQ Pocket PC features and prices, strong relationships with the channel and aggressive marketing campaigns have won over the hearts of the consumer,” said Bean.</p>
<p>“It is tremendous to know we have more than doubled sales of our HP iPAQ Pocket PCs during the past year in what has been an overall steady PDA market here in Australia.”</p>
<p>Prior to the quarter, HP strengthened its range of lightweight Pocket PCs with the release of the HP iPAQ h4150 and h4350. Both products are equipped with integrated wireless access (802.11b) and Bluetooth capability.</p>
<p>Through high-speed wireless LAN networks, HP iPAQ Pocket PCs allow access to information when connected to a corporate network or wireless ‘hotspot’, making it ideal for the user on the go or part of any mobile small or medium business solution.</p>
<p>Special HP + ExecPAQ Promotion
HP is currently offering customers an ‘ExecPAQ’ that includes $129.95 worth of free accessories with the purchase of any one of the entire range of HP iPAQ Pocket PCs. The ‘ExecPAQ’ allows customers to protect their new iPAQ in a stylish brushed aluminium case, charge their iPAQ on the go with a car charger as well as four additional styluses.</p>
<p>The ‘ExecPAQ’ promotion runs until 31 July 2004. Customers will need to fill out the redemption coupon (which they receive when making their HP iPAQ purchase), and send it to HP with a money order, or cheque for $15.95 to cover postage and handling.</p>
