Digital cameras in vogue

 • 09 September, 2004 16:29

Ricoh is set to launch the first compact digital camera with interchangeable colour face plates. Due for release in September, the Caplio RZ1 multicoloured camera delivers high performance in style.

The digital camera is fast becoming the must-have accessory of the noughties. In 2003, nearly a million cameras were sold in Australia. Analysts predict this market will grow by 80% to around 1.8 million by 2005. Like all accessories, design attributes are a key attraction. Ricoh’s Caplio RZ1 brings a sense of fun, personality and style to high tech digital cameras that will appeal to gadget enthusiasts and trend setters alike.

Costume change
The Caplio RZ1 camera package includes a choice of five coloured face plates allowing users to change the look of their camera to suit their mood or outfit. In addition to the conventional, sleek silver casing, the RZ1 comes with interchangeable panels in red, orange, blue, grey and rose.

The powerful RZ1 includes 12MB of onboard memory, which can be expanded with SD memory cards to 512MB. All of this is squeezed into a compact and slimline body measuring just 25mm wide x 102mm long x 56mm high.

High performance
Delivering on performance, the Caplio RZ1 is equipped with Ricoh’s new image processor, ‘smooth imaging engine’. This enables the camera to process images at very high speed while using minimal power. Together with the 4-Megapixel CCD, the RZ1 produces clean, high-quality images even in large printed formats.

A 3x optical zoom lens equips the Caplio RZ1 with a zoom of 35mm to 105mm. Coupled with a 3.6x digital zoom, this camera offers a total 10.8x zoom range, equivalent to 35mm to 378mm. In addition, a 1cm macro captures the most intricate details while the automatic focus target shift
function allows users to pan around the image to locate their desired focus point for creative results.

Achieving the perfect photo is also made easier with three continuous shooting modes that focus and snap in just 0.13 of a second. Using the high speed ‘S’ and ‘M’ modes, the RZ1 can store up to 16 images on a single file.

Easy to use
The fully automatic Caplio RZ1 is designed for ease of use with its function keys conveniently positioned for easy understanding at a single glance. Frequently used keys are positioned independently of the others, so there’s no need to fumble around when shooting spontaneous moments.

A range of six easy to use scene modes automatically adjusts the camera to suit the environmental conditions including a high-sensitivity mode for low-light venues. Other scenes include portrait, scenery, action, nightscape and text.

The large 1.8 inch LCD screen provides superb image clarity when previewing images. It also enables the user to view histogram information for quick analysis of exposure accuracy prior to shooting.

Supporting PictBridge, the Caplio RZ1 can send images directly to the printer and the bundled photo imaging software makes it easy to download images and produce professional results.

Available for $499 rrp inc GST, the Caplio RZ1 includes Nickel metal hydride rechargeable batteries and a charger. Ricoh photographic products are sold through more than 1500 outlets nationally, including leading camera specialists and electronics retailers.

It’s easy to set up, it’s compact and quiet when printing and to top if off, the print quality is excellent. This is hands down the best printer I’ve used for printing labels.
