Intentia's New Enterprise Portal Cuts Cost of Ownership and Increases Productivity

 • 24 May, 2004 15:41

Australia/NZ – 24 May 2004. Intentia, the collaborative enterprise software company, has announced a new high performance version of the Movex Workplace business portal that runs on IBM iSeries. The company said it can now offer customers the core Movex solution on a single ‘box’, reducing conventional hardware costs by as much as 30 per cent, and cutting total cost of ownership by half*.

Movex Workplace is Intentia’s web browser-based work environment for Movex users, and it has new features and performance enhancements specified by Intentia customers to improve usability and productivity – primary business drivers in the development of the new version These include ultra fast response times, high stability and unrivalled operating performance that is unaffected when the system is scaled up to thousands of users.

Workplace also improves individual productivity because it gives individuals single screen access, via customised menus, to all designated applications. And it is role-based and guides the user on the individual steps required to undertake a task.

The Movex Workplace browser has similar response times to a traditional, non web-based Windows application because Intentia has focused its development on support for Explorer 6 – unlike other portals that try to support a range of browsers. Intentia has also made it easier to implement changes to the user interface, for example exporting information to Excel, highlighting due-by dates for tasks to be completed, and interacting with other systems such as CAD.

“Other portals have the right functionality but, unlike Workplace, they lack the high performance needed for business applications,” said Torbjon Karlsson, product manager at Intentia Research and Development.

“Movex Workplace 5.1 is the most technologically advanced business portal on the market. We tested a number of leading portals and discovered they lacked the performance and productivity needed for a fast moving and demanding business environment.”
