Growth in ERM Solutions Market is Driven by the Need To Enhance and Expand, Says IDC

 • 21 June, 2004 14:42

NORTH SYDNEY 21st June 2004 – In a new study released by IDC titled “Australian Enterprise Resource Management (ERM) Solutions 2004-2008 Forecast", IDC estimated the ERM solutions market in Australia to be A$1.09 billion in 2003 and predicts that it will reach A$1.62 billion by 2008. This represents a compound annual growth rate of 8.2% over the forecast period, 2003 to 2008. This will be driven by cautious IT budget spending, currency fluctuations and a pullback from expansive solution implementations.

Australian ERM Solutions Market 2003-2008 (A$mil)
ERM Software:
2003 – 313.1
2008 – 463.5
ERM Services:
2003 – 782.6
2008 – 1159.9
Total ERM Solutions:
2003 – 1095.7
2008 – 1623.4

"The Australian ERM solutions market is not only the most mature but also is the most progressive (which includes CRM & SCM). Organisations across the vertical markets of manufacturing, financial services, communications, and government have implemented ERM and are continuing to upgrade their solutions and integrating them with business analytics and collaborative technologies. Additionally, Small and Medium Businesses (SMBs) in Australia are increasingly adopting solutions that reflect the need and budget of midsize organisations that are offered by international and local vendors alike."

"Demand for ERM solutions is still growing and organisations will make the conscious effort to link their internal back-end solutions with front-end and extended-end solutions in order to gain a wider view of full business operations. In doing so, organisations are looking beyond internal business process automation and are beginning to focus on revamping their ERM solutions to take advantage of current Web architectures and services," said Bharati Poorabia, Senior Analyst, Enterprise Applications at IDC Australia.

Moving forward, IDC expects the Australian ERM solutions market to be characterised by the following:

* The overall SMB focus in the enterprise applications solutions markets will contribute to an increase in ERM market size by bringing new customers into the market. Local vendors targeting the SMBs will continue to find a growth market for their solutions as they match the level of sophistication needed in the segment and often match their ERM offer with additional services required by smaller customers.

* The Large and Enterprise company-size segments will continue to represent the majority of vendor revenues in this market, but faster growth will come in the SMB space as there are more companies in those segments which still have not entered the market and when they do, will be starting from scratch and enabling a full-suite deployment.

* Across most industry segments and geographies, back-office applications sales are becoming the undeniable backbone for many enterprise IT strategies, especially among large companies who are integrating them with various other applications, such as analytics or supply chain management.

* In implementing ERM, IDC believes it is necessary to clarify a company's purpose at each stage of implementation to understand the system structures of respective companies and to separate core from non-core competence operation areas.
