NETGEAR tops 2004 Australian WLAN market

 • 29 March, 2005 09:20

Sydney, Australia (29 March, 2005) – NETGEAR (Nasdaq: NTGR), a leading provider of easy-to-use, high-performance networking products, has been identified as the 2004 Australian WLAN market leader by leading IT market research and advisory firm IDC in its latest Asia/Pacific Wireless LAN Tracker.

The IDC Asia/Pacific Quarterly Wireless LAN Tracker monitors the local wireless market, tracking the revenue and shipments of access points (including wireless routers, gateways and bridges), wireless NICs and wireless switches. According to the Q4 2004 report, NETGEAR has maintained its position as the Australian WLAN market leader, achieving the highest sales for both the fourth quarter and the entire year. Shipments to the small-to-medium enterprise and education markets, along with strong consumer customer premise equipment (CPE) sales have allowed the company to successfully sustain its market share.

“In 2004, NETGEAR introduced almost 50 new products to the local market, expanding our popular Smart Switch line and ramping up the speed, coverage and performance of our wireless gear with the latest ADSL2+, Super G and Super A/G technology,” said Ian McLean, Vice President, NETGEAR Asia-Pacific. “Our innovative RangeMax family of Smart MIMO products will be next to hit the Australian market, delivering industry-leading range and data speeds for home and SOHO environments, undoubtedly contributing to NETGEAR’s continued market share growth in 2005.”

While NETGEAR’s worldwide market share in the SOHO/Home WLAN category increased 63 percent year-over-year from 2003, the company continues to ramp up its focus on the corporate sector. NETGEAR has developed an innovative range of enterprise networking solutions, growing its popular Smart Switch line and power-over-Ethernet (PoE) offerings.

Committing to its business customers, NETGEAR has also developed a number of comprehensive support programs that have been specifically tailored to suit the needs of this market. They include four-hour and next day parts exchange for NETGEAR’s enterprise products, and onsite product replacement plans.

“Having introduced a range of business class products, we understand what our business customers require from a solutions and support partner, and have grown our channel training, support and service programs accordingly. Our adaptability and our focus is, and will continue to be, a major contributor to our market success.”
