Toshiba Corporation Turns to FalconStor Software for Disaster Recovery Solution

European Headquarters of Leading Global Corporation Chooses IPStor for Consolidation of Resources and Centralized Storage Management

Sydney, Australia - April 22, 2005-FalconStor Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: FALC), a leading developer of network storage software solutions, today announced that Toshiba Information Systems UK, a provider of consumer electronics and business communication systems, has chosen FalconStor's IPStor® Enterprise Edition software to manage a resilient storage area network and provide for disaster recovery operations. IPStor software will be implemented and integrated by FalconStor partner Redstor.

Toshiba Information Systems' Weybridge data centre has 10 servers, running an operating system mixture of Microsoft Windows 2000 and Sun Solaris, and providing file-and-print, Oracle and Lotus Notes applications. The direct attached storage of these 10 servers totalled about 1 terabyte, and the individual management of each server led to an increasing backup and maintenance overhead. IPStor software will address these issues for Toshiba Information Systems through centralized storage management, with the consolidation of all storage resources into an IP SAN, and data replication to a remote site for disaster recovery purposes.

"Data and application growth had led to incremental increases in the number of servers and storage we had. Each storage addition did what we needed at the time, but that approach was slowly generating manageability and scalability problems," said Eddie Thrower, senior DBA at Toshiba Information Systems. "IPStor will enable us to re-use the resources in which we've already invested, while reducing management costs, providing us with the right platform for disaster recovery and putting us in good shape for future evolution."

Toshiba's implementation will be comprised of a pair of high availability IPStor iSCSI servers, configured for Active-Active failover at the primary site, with a single IPStor appliance at the secondary data centre. In Active-Active failover mode, if one IPStor appliance should fail for any reason or the path to it is disrupted, the other immediately and transparently takes over the workload until the primary appliance is back online. There is no disruption to users, and neither processing nor activities-in-progress will be interrupted.

"Manageability and scalability are the two most frequent problems we see customers facing," said Ross Parker, FalconStor Regional Director, Northern Europe. "IPStor removes that pain and also provides a raft of additional benefits such as an easily-implemented disaster recovery solution with high data availability."

Tony Ruane, business development director at Redstor, said, "There is a continuing shift to drive down ongoing costs and at the same time increase availability of data by being smarter with technology. Toshiba sees the value of IPStor today as it delivers these benefits back to the business, and will continue to do so in the future."

IPStor software's Snapshot Agents for Lotus Notes, Oracle and for file systems ensure data integrity during asynchronous replication services to the remote data centre, providing redundancy and automatic failover at the disk, LUN, channel and cabinet level. This means that Toshiba's IT administrators can easily redirect application servers to retrieve data from the backup data centre in the event of data loss at the primary site. This keeps disaster-related downtime to an absolute minimum while ensuring maximum business continuity.

In conjunction with IP trunking to balance network loads, IPStor DynaPath® Agents will provide maximum data availability and peak performance across Toshiba's SAN. The DynaPath Agent is an application server-resident utility that maximizes data availability for storage systems by creating parallel active storage paths that transparently reroute application server traffic to a redundant storage path without interruption, in the event of a storage network problem.
