SMEs to slash print costs with unique monitoring solution

Unique new software application running within MFDs allows SMEs to track print, scan, fax and copy use,

including who is printing in colour

Sydney, 28 April 2005 -- Canon Australia today announced the release of Canon NetSpot Accountant for MEAP -- a software solution that actually runs inside the Canon multifunctional device (MFD) itself, allowing SMEs to track printer, scanner, fax and copier use, including who is printing in colour.

The release of this solution is part of Canon Australia’s official launch of MEAP, a new platform that allows Canon, customers, system integrators and developers to simplify the way organisations work by creating embedded applications that transform the behaviour of MFDs. (See today’s release: “Canon unveils platform for next generation of information solutions”.)

With NetSpot Accountant for MEAP, SMEs can monitor Canon imageRUNNERs — tracking who is printing in black & white or colour, who is using duplex or n-up mode, who is faxing, copying or scanning, and who is using each size and type of paper. Many SMEs, workgroups and small departments will find that NetSpot Accountant for MEAP is a much better fit with their needs than an enterprise-grade document accounting solution like Canon NetSpot Accountant for Windows, which is designed for much larger fleets of printers and MFDs. This is because NetSpot Accountant for MEAP requires no server or IT management, which is only possible because it is based on Canon’s breakthrough platform, MEAP.

“We’ve been building intelligence into our MFDs for years, but now it’s time for NetSpot Accountant for MEAP to harness it,” said Peter Matthews, Market Segment Manager, Software & Solutions, Canon Australia. “Thanks to this simple, powerful solution, SMEs, workgroups and small departments will find that they are now more able than ever to balance the full impact of colour printing with the speed and savings of black-and-white.”

NetSpot Accountant for MEAP is managed through an elegant, web-browser interface that supports one-click data collation. The software will automatically collate data from multiple MFDs into one report. It can export this data to CSV format for opening in a program like Excel. It can also automatically email these reports to the business manager on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.

Canon NetSpot Accountant for MEAP is available now though Canon direct and dealer channels. It costs approximately $1000 per MFD. Compatible devices in Canon’s imageRUNNER range include the iR2220i, iR3320i, iR5020i, iR6020i, iR5020, iR6020, iRC3220, iRC2620, iR4570, iR3570, iR2870, iR2270, iR105+, iR9070 and iR8070.
