Hewlett-Packard simplifies data storage for SMBs in Australia

 • 02 May, 2005 13:11

Sydney, Australia, 2 May 2005 – Hewlett-Packard (HP) is launching its SMB storage offering, which caters specifically for the requirements of Australian SMBs. HP Simply StorageWorks has been created to ease the burden of data storage for SMBs by making storage solutions cost effective, easy to deploy and easy to manage.

Growing amounts of data and the up-take of new data-intensive technologies by SMBs has led to an increased need for strategic storage solutions, at an SMB price and with an SMB focus. HP Simply StorageWorks includes three key offerings: My First SAN (Storage Area Network); Easy as NAS (Network Attached Storage); and Ultimate Business Protection. HP will be working with partners and customers to identify the best fit for individual company needs with a focus on how the solution will enhance business protection, to improve security and manageability.

Mark Nielsen, HP StorageWorks product marketing manager said: “Traditionally, SAN and large NAS solutions have been seen as the reserve of the enterprise, there has been a serious drought of appropriately targeted SMB solutions. For these companies, the gamut of storage solutions available appear expensive, complicated and certainly not particularly related to their business strategy or their bottom line. HP Simply StorageWorks tackles exactly this issue, making the solutions understandable, and relevant to the business.”

HP is also offering a selection of HP Simply StorageWorks services to help support SMBs as an accompaniment to each programme. These services ensure that support levels match business needs, that installations are performed properly and that staff are educated and aware of how to best use the technology. Currently they include Care Packs for installation; proactive services; classroom training and traditional break-fixing.

“Recent Gartner research suggests that 40 per cent of small and medium companies in Australia don’t have consistent back-up policies in place,” said Nielsen. “That’s over 39 per cent of all Australia’s businesses that are at risk of losing their most valuable asset, their data. By offering a business case for a specific style of storage and then supplying all aspects of that solution at an entry-level cost, we’re cutting out the complexity and making enterprise class storage solutions available to SMBs.”

For example, My First SAN offers a SAN network at one entry-level price including hardware, software, configuration, integration and services – everything a company needs to implement and manage its SAN smoothly and efficiently.”

Additional Information - Storage solutions made simple
My first SAN helps SMBs save money by consolidating data, as well as simplifying and centralising data management. The solution also helps protect the investment and future-proof systems by giving high levels of data availability, greater disk capacity utilisation, and greater scalability than traditional Direct Attached Storage (DAS) solutions.

Easy as NAS incorporates HP’s ProLiant Storage Server family. This solution focuses on centralising data, improving performance and simplifying data management at a lower running cost than many traditional SAN solutions. Easy as NAS also protects existing investments in HP equipment, as it can utilise existing HP universal hard disk drives, ensuring continuity of data and reducing cost by re-using current hardware.

Ultimate Business protection includes a range of data storage offers supporting DAS through to complete heterogeneous DAS, LAN Back-up, NAS and SAN environments. This includes everything from the most basic of tape back-up solutions through to larger automated tape loading and data archiving. These can all be implemented either individually or as part of a more comprehensive NAS and SAN solution, using entry-level equipment affordable to SMBs.
