CD and DVD authoring software: MyDVD Studio Deluxe 6.0

MyDVD Studio Deluxe 6.0 is ideal for those who prefer to spend time sharing videos, photos and music on DVD and CD, rather than wrestling with complex software. It is available in several flavours - the more you pay, the more features you get.

The product we tested, MyDVD Studio Deluxe 6.0, adds CD ripping and burning, CD/DVD copying and disc labelling to features available in the lesser versions, such as CD/DVD authoring tools and playback software. And if you shell out for the high-end MyDVD Studio Deluxe Suite 6.0, you get Sonic's BackUp MyPC.

Studio Deluxe 6.0 contains many enhancements to make authoring easier, including an integrated interface, freeform button placement, encoding for up to four hours of video on a single-layer DVD, and widescreen support, as well as space for up to 1000 photographs per slideshow and better audio control.

It also has a fit-to-DVD option and supports dual-layer discs. Unfortunately, the video-editing tools are basic, with no timeline. Audio support is also weak and DVD-titling options are limited.

This program will be a good buy for computer novices, but more tech-savvy users should consider Pinnacle Studios' Studio 9.0 for video-editing and Roxio's Creator 7.0 for a more complete authoring solution.
