Enterasys Networks Extends SecureStack Family of Stackable, Secure Edge Switches

 • 06 May, 2005 10:33

Enterasys Networks® (NYSE: ETS), the Secure Networks CompanyTM, today introduced the latest addition to its SecureStack family of secure, stackable edge switches. SecureStack delivers the network performance that enterprises require to ensure business continuity, and it provides policy-based security to protect vital information at the individual user and device level to combat security threats and comply with new regulations.

The new SecureStack B2 is a Layer 2 edge switch featuring 20 gigabits of stacking capacity and an optional policy upgrade. Enterasys designed the SecureStack B2 as an entry-level switch to meet the immediate needs of enterprises while providing the option of adding the full business benefits of granular policy control to the edge of their network in the future. The optional policy upgrade delivers Enterasys' Acceptable Use Policy and Dynamic Intrusion Response solutions at the edge of the network. This enables enterprises to contain and resolve network threats right at the port of entry.

"Network attacks are increasingly coming from inside the network infrastructure-from laptops, PDAs and other devices that attach to the network" said Cynthia Gallant, executive vice president of Enterasys' Secure Networks Group. "After entering, these attacks can rapidly spread across the network infrastructure, causing significant disruption of business activities. Policy-enabled security at the edge of the network is vital for the information assurance and business continuity that enterprises demand. It's no longer an option to ignore security at the network edge. The business risks are simply too great."

Any enterprise can benefit from the feature-rich, cost-effective edge security SecureStack provides. The firmware upgrade for the SecureStack B2 enables users to leverage NetSight® Policy Manager to flexibly install granular policy capabilities on every switch in order to meet their unique business needs. These enterprise-wide policies can be defined to meet the specific needs of functional groups within an enterprise. For example, the sales force could have a vastly different definition of acceptable use of network resources than the engineering group or the enterprise's policy for visitors who access the network. This flexibility not only exists in the definition of policies, but also in the ability to push policies to SecureStack switches instantly. Indeed, with Enterasys solutions, a network administrator can push a policy with a single mouse click to thousands of SecureStack devices. This rapid response saves time during normal operations and can be critical to halting security outbreaks in the network.

The SecureStack family of switches is an ideal fit for Enterasys' two-tier distribution model. "SecureStack is a great addition to the impressive Enterasys product family," said Don Helmstetter, CEO and president of CompuNET International of Minnesota, an Enterasys value-added reseller. "Enterprises want choice in the products they place on their network. The newly expanded SecureStack family provides broad options for edge switching, and the ability to upgrade to NetSight Policy Manager makes the B2 unique in the marketplace."

The SecureStack B2 switch consists of five models:
• 48-port 10/100
• 48-port 10/100 Power over Ethernet
• 24-port 10/100/1000
• 48-port 10/100/1000
• 48-port 10/100/1000 Power over Ethernet

The SecureStack family also includes a new warranty that meets or exceeds anything available in the industry for stackable edge switches. The warranty includes all hardware, including fans and power supplies, and offers next-business day replacement if problems develop.

The SecureStack B2 will be available from Enterasys and its resellers by the end of May 2005.

The Enterasys Secure Networks Advantage
Enterasys' industry-leading Secure Networks technology and solutions provide the highest level of infrastructure security available today. Secure Networks delivers the most granular level of security, providing visibility and control down to the network device, individual user and application level. This enables enterprises to quickly and easily detect, assess, locate and protect against attacks. This unmatched security comes from the integrated policy-based management software architecture that works with the embedded security capabilities Enterasys designs into its entire product line. This unique approach offers significant operational and business benefits, unmatched by vendor offerings that add hardware or software to multiple network access points in an attempt to increase security. In fact, Secure Networks technology can even make networks with competitors' equipment more secure.

These statements may be identified with such words as "we expect," "we believe," "we anticipate," or similar indications of future expectations. These statements are neither promises nor guarantees, and actual future financial performance, events and activities may differ materially. Readers are cautioned not to place undue reliance on these statements, which speak only as of the date hereof. We expressly disclaim any obligation to update such statements publicly to reflect changes in the expectations, assumptions, events or circumstances on which such statements may be based or that may affect the likelihood that actual results will differ materially.

Some risks and uncertainties that may cause actual results to differ materially from these forward-looking statements include, but are not limited to: worldwide and regional economic uncertainty and recent political and social turmoil may continue to negatively affect our business and revenue; we have a history of losses in recent years and may not operate profitably in the future; our quarterly operating results may fluctuate, which could cause us to fail to meet quarterly operating targets and result in a decline in our stock price; we earn a substantial portion of our revenue for each quarter in the last month of each quarter, which reduces our ability to accurately forecast our quarterly results and increases the risk that we will be unable to achieve previously forecasted results; we continue to introduce new products, and if our customers delay product purchases or choose alternative solutions, or if sales of new products are not sufficient to offset declines in sales of older products, our revenue could decline, we may incur excess and obsolete inventory charges, and our financial condition could be harmed; we may be unable to upgrade our indirect distribution channels or otherwise enhance our selling capabilities, which may hinder our ability to grow our customer base and increase our revenue; we have experienced significant changes in senior management and our current management team has been together for only a limited time, which could limit our ability to achieve our objectives and effectively operate our business; there is intense competition in the market for enterprise network equipment, which could prevent us from increasing our revenue and achieving profitability; a portion of the enterprises we sell to rely in whole or in part on public funding and often face significant budgetary pressure, and if these customers must delay, reduce or forego purchasing from us, our revenues could be harmed; we depend upon a limited number of contract manufacturers for substantially all of our manufacturing requirements, and the loss of any of our primary contract manufacturers would impair our ability to meet the demands of our customers; and those additional risks and uncertainties discussed in our most recent filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission, including our annual report on Form 10-K for the fiscal year ended January 1, 2005.
