Microsoft Australia appoints Chief Security Officer

<p>Ongoing commitment to security reinforced by new senior appointment</p>
<p>Sydney – 24 May 2005 – Microsoft Australia today announced the appointment of Mr Peter Watson to the newly created role of Chief Security Officer.</p>
<p>Mr Watson will report to Microsoft Australia’s Managing Director, Mr Steve Vamos, and will oversee Microsoft’s security strategy and operational activities in both Australia and New Zealand.</p>
<p>Mr Watson will also be responsible for coordinating all of Microsoft’s security initiatives across internal business groups and with customers and partners.</p>
<p>“Security is a top priority for Microsoft. We are pleased that someone of Peter’s standing is joining us,” said Mr Vamos.</p>
<p>“Peter is recognised and highly respected in the security domain and will provide leadership for important initiatives across our business.”</p>
<p>Prior to joining Microsoft, Peter Watson worked at IBM. He has over 16 years experience in the technology industry working in information security and audit roles. Prior to IBM he worked for Arthur Andersen, Bank of Melbourne, Ansett Transport Industries and Coles Myer.</p>
