NetApp IP-based storage solutions help accelerate enterprise adoption and support for Linux

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sydney – August 4, 2004

Network Appliance, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTAP), the leader in advanced networked storage solutions for today’s data-intensive enterprise, has announced support across the NetApp® unified storage solution portfolio for Novell Inc.’s (NASDAQ: NOVL) SUSE LINUX® Enterprise Server 9 . The advanced iSCSI features and other enhancements to SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 directly impact the ability of both Novell and Network Appliance to offer customers an IP-based storage solution that is ideal for grid architectures in industries including financial services, energy exploration, genomics research and computer animation.

Combined, NetApp solutions and SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 provide a highly scalable storage environment that simplifies management, lowers total cost of ownership (TCO), enables the deployment of large-scale compute farms and delivers heightened storage flexibility for high-performance computing applications.

“NetApp storage solutions combined with Novell's SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 offer customers a secure environment for optimum performance while reducing costs,” said Holger Dyroff, Vice President Product Management and Marketing, SUSE LINUX for Novell. “NetApp storage continues to be a natural fit in SUSE LINUX environments, especially with the increased enterprise adoption of grid architectures.”

“Our growing relationship with Novell offers customers greater flexibility and choice for advanced storage solutions,” said Patrick Rogers, Vice President of Marketing at Network Appliance. “Support for SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 is a natural fit for NetApp unified storage solutions. Customers in high-performance computing environments now have the benefits of a highly scalable and flexible storage solution in addition to the cost benefits of iSCSI.”

Available in August 2004, SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 is the first enterprise-class server to support the Linux 2.6 kernel. Backed by Novell's global ecosystem of enterprise-level consulting, training and support, SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 supports all relevant system architectures with a uniform code base. This provides IT professionals with a consistent, familiar platform to deploy across heterogeneous environments and affords end users considerable cost savings. Security and software updates are provided uniformly from Novell, which reduces the burden on IT when deploying updates across different hardware and systems architectures.
