EMC Announces Intent to Support Microsoft’s Simple SAN for Windows Server Initiative and Microsoft SQL Server 2005; New Integrations and Enhancements Help Customers Reduce Risk, Improve Service Levels

SYDNEY, Australia, June 8, 2005 – EMC Corporation, the world leader in information storage and management, today announced several enhancements to its networked storage systems and software that will help customers more effectively manage their Microsoft Windows-based information throughout its lifecycle.

EMC is showcasing its leading solutions for Windows applications to thousands of Microsoft Corp. customers as a Platinum sponsor of the annual Microsoft Tech Ed conference. The initiatives and enhancements announced today include:

- EMC’s plan to support the Microsoft Simple SAN (storage area network) for Windows Server initiative which is designed to provide easy-to-deploy-and-manage SAN solutions for Windows Server 2003 environments. EMC will develop Simple SAN component products to simplify storage provisioning and backup and recovery for customers.

- Working with Microsoft on developing EMC Proven information management and protection solutions for Microsoft SQL Server 2005, Microsoft’s next-generation data management and analysis platform. New solutions from EMC will help customers take full advantage of the new scalability, availability and security features in SQL Server 2005.

- Microsoft’s qualification of the newest members of the leading EMC CLARiiON family of networked storage systems –– the CLARiiON AX100i, CX300i and CX500i storage arrays –– as iSCSI “targets.” The EMC CLARiiON systems join previously qualified EMC Symmetrix DMX and Celerra products. Microsoft logo qualification ensures joint support for customers deploying EMC iSCSI solutions in Windows environments. EMC will support the upcoming Microsoft iSCSI initiator 2.0 for use with all WHQL qualified EMC iSCSI arrays.

- The release of a new Microsoft Multipath I/O (MPIO) version of EMC PowerPath software for iSCSI. This Windows logoed software provides multiple path I/O capabilities, automatic load balancing and path failover functions.

- The completion and release of a suite of replication products that adhere to Microsoft’s Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) framework. The EMC Replication Manager (RM) family including RM version 3.0 and RM/SE versions 2.2 and 3.0, and EMC TimeFinder Exchange Integration Module (TEIM) version 3.8 now leverage VSS capabilities to provide enhanced backup and rapid recovery for Exchange Server 2003 environments.

“EMC is working with Microsoft to develop products and solutions that help our customers achieve the benefits of information lifecycle management in Windows environments,” said BJ Jenkins, EMC vice president of global marketing. “EMC’s commitment to driving technical integration with the Microsoft Windows platform, Exchange Server and SQL Server reduces cost and complexity for customers and enables them to maximize the value of their Windows investments at every point in the information lifecycle.”
