Nam Tai making smaller EyeToy for PlayStation 2

Hong Kong's Nam Tai has begun making a smaller version of the EyeToy USB camera for Sony's PS2, it said.

Hong Kong-based electronics manufacturer Nam Tai Electronic and Electrical Products has begun manufacturing a new version of the EyeToy camera for Sony Computer Entertainment's (SCEI) PlayStation 2 console, the company said Tuesday.

The EyeToy is a USB camera that can be used with some PlayStation 2 games to allow users to interact with the games by their movements. The camera typically faces the game player who can control or play the game by, for example, waving their arms or jumping from side-to-side.

The EyeToy was first launched in Europe in July 2003.

The new EyeToy will have the same basic functions as the original model but be smaller to match Sony's recently launched second-generation PlayStation 2 console, which is considerable smaller than the original model, Nam Tai said in a statement. Nam Tai is producing the devices on behalf of SCEI, which will sell them to end-users under its own brand name.

As the Maserati or BMW of laptops, it would fit perfectly in the hands of a professional needing firepower under the hood, sophistication and class on the surface, and gaming prowess (sports mode if you will) in between.
