Fujitsu sues Nanya over memory chip patent

Fujitsu has filed a lawsuit against Nanya in a Tokyo court alleging infringement of a DDR SDRAM patent.

Fujitsu filed a patent infringement lawsuit on Monday against Taiwanese memory chip maker Nanya Technology over DRAM (dynamic RAM) technology, Fujitsu said.

The lawsuit was filed in the Tokyo District Court against Nanya's local subsidiary, Nanya Technology Japan, and seeks a court order prohibiting the future importation and sale of products that Fujitsu says infringe on its patent.

Fujitsu is also asking the court to award it monetary damages, said Bob Pomeroy, a company spokesman. He wouldn't comment on the amount of money being sought.

The suit covers a patent related to a technology for improving the speed of DDR SDRAM (double data rate synchronous dynamic RAM) memory chips, said Pomeroy.

The suit was filed after talks between the two companies failed to produce an agreement on patent licensing, Fujitsu said.

Nanya declined to comment on any lawsuit.

"We haven't received any information from Fujitsu yet, so we can't comment right now," said Amelia Chu, a representative at Nanya Technology in Taiwan.
