Mitel Outpaces Competition in Enterprise IP Telephony in Q2

 • 25 August, 2005 09:00

Sydney, August, 25, 2005 – Mitel®, a leading provider of IP communications solutions, today announced that it outpaced its competitors in Enterprise IP Telephony sales in the second quarter of 2005, according to a recently published report from Synergy Research Group, a leading market research firm. The report also indicates that Mitel maintained its market-leading position in the small and medium business segment.

According to Synergy’s report titled "Q2 2005 Enterprise Voice Market Shares”, Mitel Enterprise IP Telephony sales grew 20 percent sequentially, faster than the growth rates of Avaya, Cisco and Nortel in the past calendar quarter. This was driven by strong sales of Mitel’s LAN Telephony Call Server shipments, which grew 46 percent sequentially, a growth rate that topped Cisco’s and Nortel’s by over 30 and 40 percentage points, respectively.

Gwilym Funnell, Mitel Australia Country Manager commented, “The Mitel 3300 ICP has been a strong performer in the Australian market, and these latest market share figures show the success we are achieving worldwide.”

Don Smith, CEO Mitel observed, “Mitel’s continued and significant investment in the development of our solutions is yielding strong results in the marketplace. Companies implementing Mitel’s IP Communications solutions represent a range of industries of all sizes. Our introduction in July of Release 6 of the 3300 ICP is the most significant increase in our addressable market to date and allows us to continue the momentum we are experiencing particularly in larger enterprises.”

The Mitel 3300 ICP can now scale down to 10 users and up to 65,000 while simultaneously functioning as both an IP-PBX and an Applications & Services Gateway (ASG), allowing interoperability with the Microsoft Live Communications Server (LCS) and related applications. The 3300 ICP delivers enhanced network management, increased security and supports new innovative IP desktop devices.

Mitel continues to maintain its market leadership in the small and medium business market (SMB), as confirmed in Synergy’s latest market share findings. According to the Synergy report, the company’s Q2 sales in the low and mid-tier markets were in excess of four of its competitors combined: 3Com, Shoretel, Sphere and Vertical.

“Mitel is unique in that they architected their IP Telephony solution from scratch, allowing them to combine the best of both worlds, taking full advantage of an IP solution with the heritage and well established experience of Mitel’s traditional PBX and KTS solutions,” Jeremy Duke, President & CEO, Synergy Research Group. “Mitel’s strong market performance in Q2 shows they continue to be successful bringing sophisticated IP Telephony solutions to market and building upon a strong market share position in the Small and Medium business space.”
