German semiconductor manufacturer Infineon Technologies has won a contract from Microsoft to supply three components for the new Xbox 360 video game console.
The components include an advanced security chip, a removable solid-state memory unit and single-chip ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit) wireless pad controller, Infineon said Tuesday.
The companies provided no financial details.
Xbox consoles with Infineon components are expected to be on store shelves in Europe, Japan and North America in the fourth quarter when the important holiday shopping season begins, Infineon said.
The Xbox video game console is packed with features that make it more than a gaming device, allowing consumers, for instance, to watch movies, listen to music, store photos and more. The device includes wireless connectivity.
