Spring clean your PC: PC Booster 4.0

Getting better performance from your PC is a perennial problem. Who doesn't want their computer to work faster, without the need for expensive upgrades?

PC Booster 4.0 is not the only software of this type on the market, but it stands out because of its presentation. It really is simple to use, even for a novice.

This is mainly because of the default Auto Tune mode allowing you to carry out simple optimisation with one click.

Auto Tune automatically backs up your settings, just in case any of the tweaks make your system unstable. It then analyses your PC and compiles a list of "recommendations". You can view the list, but you don't get any say in the changes that are made.

Once you've run the tuning program, your system has to be restarted, after which you can view the before-and-after results. The fact that this performance test is provided by the maker of the software means we'd be inclined to take its results with a pinch of salt.

The software provides plenty of information about the tasks you are going to carry out. It will check the stability of your CPU, recover any unused RAM so you get the most from your memory and conduct all the usual optimisations tasks, such as dumping old temporary files.

You can also access all the extra adjustments, which apply to Windows, hardware and generation performance, from the Advanced Tweaks section.

Verdict PC Booster 4.0 is a cheap and easy solution to some performance problems. It can keep you on top of how your PC is doing and help you carry out maintenance - but we didn't notice much difference after the Auto Tune. Ursula Seymour
