NEC takes pole position with the launch of Australia’s first 3G i-mode mobile phone

 • 12 October, 2005 15:07

NEC Australia has announced the launch of Australia’s first i-mode® 3G mobile phone – the NEC N600i. Available now in Telstra stores, the N600i allows users to stay ahead of the game and access internet like services on the mobile, movie trailers, sports replays, video games and music faster than ever before.

A compact (94.4×47.5×24.5mm, 115g) and striking clamshell 3G video-phone, the N600i is equipped with a full-scale 1.3 mega-pixel integrated auto-focus camera so you can shoot photos and video and share them immediately with friends and family.

As mobile handset market leader in Japan, NEC is an active driver in the increased uptake of 3G and i-mode service subscribers globally, through the company’s development of total i-mode solutions including 3G software, 3G i-mode handsets, as well as i-mode service platforms. The new feature-packed N600i marks NEC’s drive to reintroduce NEC mobiles to Australian consumers.

NEC Australia’s Mobile Terminals Marketing Division’s General Manager, Kris Tsukuda comments that “currently standing at over 46 million, global i-mode uptake reflects the growing consumer demand for attractive data communications services and sophisticated mobile internet content. By allowing consumers to access online shopping, online banking, checking movie times and reviews quickly, i-mode is revolutionising the way users access internet like services on their mobiles.”

Not only capable of displaying high-resolution pictures, the N600i’s two inch 65K QVGA main LCD display is also able to show MPEG4 movies. The N600i’s in-built Bluetooth® technology allows effortless interaction with other devices, including laptops, mobiles and compatible headsets, as well as synchronisation with PC contacts and appointments. Users can also maximise their down time by video calling business colleagues while waiting for flights in the departure lounge.

Kris Tsukuda adds that “mobile usage is moving beyond simply making voice calls. We expect 3G i-mode users in Australia to follow Japan’s lead - viewing multiple websites, online purchasing, sending and receiving emails and video calling will take over traditional means of mobile communications.”

Being a complete mobile office and entertainment package means N600i users can travel light and leave other accessories such as PDAs, MP3 players, laptops, games consoles and even roadmaps, behind. Make an account transfer in the back of a taxi using the N600i’s i-mode menu for online banking and the N600i’s 20MB embedded memory and expand the memory on the phone using a Trans-FlashTM memory card to store large amounts of data – music, photos and video.

Available now with an RRP of $768 or on a Telstra $60 plan or above, the N600i is packed full of technology to satisfy both today and tomorrow’s discerning mobile user.
