FalconStor Expands the Scope of its Continuous Data Protection Service to Include a Host/Cluster's Direct Attached Storage

 • 03 November, 2005 12:29

FalconStor's DiskSafe Works in Concert with IPStor to Continuously/Periodically Replicate Host Data with 100% Integrity, and Rapidly Recover Individual Client/Server/Cluster's File, Database or System to Maximise Business Continuity

Sydney, Australia – November 3, 2005 - FalconStor Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: FALC - News), a leading developer of network storage software solutions, today announced the expansion of its Continuous Data Protection (CDP) services to include host machines (e.g. Notebook, Desktop, Exchange Cluster, etc.) using Direct Attached Storage (DAS) via the company's host-based replication solution, DiskSafe(TM).

DiskSafe works seamlessly with IPStor® software to provide CDP of an individual client, host or a cluster's direct-attached storage (DAS) in a continuous or periodic mode, and in the background using industry standard protocols such as iSCSI or Fibre Channel. DiskSafe enables users to recover lost files, database, or disk, with the ability to remotely boot and reconstruct the entire system over IP.

DiskSafe transmits and journals changed data blocks to minimise network traffic and to meet the Recovery Point Objectives (RPO). To meet the Recovery Time Objective (RTO), FalconStor's application aware snapshot agents enable the database and message stores residing on local servers to be replicated with full transactional integrity, with instant access for purpose of recovery, daily backup, and data mining.

"Remote office data and data directly attached to servers has historically been the hardest thing for IT to protect, and preparing such data for disaster recovery has often not been practical," said Mike Karp, senior analyst, Enterprise Management Associates. "FalconStor's DiskSafe host-based CDP solution provides a centralised solution that ties isolated servers - local and remote - into a centralised server at the main office."

With data replicas of the server volume, database and messaging servers now residing on the local iSCSI Storage Server, FalconStor's remote replication service provides another layer of protection by enabling the transfer of replicated data across any distance over an IP network, either directly to a centralised data management appliance powered by IPStor software in a corporation's SAN, or to a remote iSCSI Storage Server at a secondary, disaster recovery site. This allows organisations to achieve rapid data recovery in the event of a primary disk failure or disaster.
