REGION4 ANNOUNCES THE OPTIVAULT™ ARCHIVAL APPLIANCE FROM PRIMERA Primera Technology Inc., the world’s leading developer and manufacturer of CD/DVD duplication and printing and equipment, has announced its new Optivault Archival Appliance.

Optivault is an automated, robotically-controlled appliance that backs up and recovers email and other critical data onto robust and affordable optical discs. The device operates unobtrusively in the background of Microsoft-based servers. It backs up and easily recovers a wide range of critical data, including all emails sent, received and deleted including attachments.

Because Optivault uses non-erasable, non-rewritable DVD optical media that can be stored offsite, it provides true WORM (Write Once Read Many) compliance. This specification is critical to ensure compliance with Australian Corporations Law for the retention of financial documents (including emails) for five years. “Failing to properly archive email and other critical data can be a costly mistake”, said Mark Strobel , VP of Sales and Marketing at Primera. “Small to medium sized businesses and even departments or remote offices in larger enterprises need a reliable, cost effective archival solution that operates automatically. Primera’s new OptiVault Archival Appliance accomplishes this and more.”

Optivault is designed for use in a wide range of environments that may already be using a variety of primary backup menthods such as tape, disc-to-disc or RAID. It interfaces to the server through a single high-speed USB 2.0 port and can be optionally rack mounted in a 19” 4U configuration.
During the backup sequence, discs are automatically loaded into OptiVault’s built-in, high-speed recorder. Then, each member of the backup set is printed direct to disc with serialization and other identifying information for fast and easy retrieval.

Included with OptiVault is EMC Dantz Retrospect, Single Server Edition with Retrospect Agent for Exchange. This award –winning software installs on any Windows XP/2000 PC or Windows 2000/2003 server and provides fully-automated, hands free backup and recovery. Optional software modules are available for backup of SQL databases, open files and disaster recovery.

Optivault is now available in Australia from Region4 authorised resellers and has a RRP of $5299 inc GST.

It’s easy to set up, it’s compact and quiet when printing and to top if off, the print quality is excellent. This is hands down the best printer I’ve used for printing labels.
