Argus Locks In Mexican Prison Deal

 • 15 December, 2005 12:12

Argus Solutions (ASV), the world leader in the development and delivery of biometric applications and solutions for identity management, today announced a ground-breaking agreement with Mexican prisons.

The agreement will see the delivery of Argus’ Australian built software, operating with a fingerprint biometric application. The sale is expected to be the first of a number to the law enforcement and corrections markets in that country.

Argus Solutions Chief Executive Officer, Bruce Lyman, described the sale as a major breakthrough in the company’s entry into the North American and Latin American markets.

“Together, North and Latin America form the biggest biometric market in the world. The law enforcement and corrections sector presents an area of immense opportunity for Argus technology.”

The contract will see the first of a number of prisons being fitted with Argus Solutions’ Cornerstone product in Latin America.

“The technology will focus initially on visitor management and tracking, similar to that which we have already implemented in a number of Australian prisons,” said Bruce Lyman.

Cornerstone is ‘biometrics for any application’ - a baseline product providing enrolment, recognition, reporting and application security ‘out of the box’, with the capacity to add plug-in components tailored to business needs, such as time and attendance management.

Bruce Lyman said the contract would enhance Argus’ international reputation for the delivery of biometric applications.

“Delivering this project with a fingerprint sensor reflects both the flexibility of Cornerstone and our ability to deliver a strong identity management solution, utilising the sensors preferred by the customer.”

The project will be delivered by combining the Cornerstone product with the IWS Biometric Engine, a product licensed to Argus by Image Ware Systems Inc. The contract consolidates the cooperation and collaboration between Argus and IWS. Bringing the two products together has been part of the strategy of the two companies since they started working together.

“The combined Cornerstone and Biometric Engine product represents a very open architecture and delivers high scalability. It allows the customer to easily interface with other technologies. It delivers to the customer a future-proof solution that will accommodate technology upgrades and developments.”
