VERITAS Enterprise Vault™ From Symantec Identified as the Market-Leading Messaging Archiving Software Product

 • 19 January, 2006 18:02

SYDNEY, Australia – 19 January 2006 – Symantec Corp. today announced it was among the select companies that Forrester invited to participate in its 2005 Forrester Wave report, “The Forrester Wave™: Message Archiving Software, Q4 2005.” In this evaluation, VERITAS Enterprise Vault email and content archiving software, now from Symantec, was cited as a leader in the Messaging Archiving category. The Forrester report states Symantec offers the market-leading messaging archiving product when considering the following factors: current offering, strategy and market presence.

Enterprise Vault enables organizations to more effectively manage email and other forms of unstructured electronic content by providing a secure, searchable online archive for critical business records, improving employee productivity and ensuring compliance with industry and government regulations and laws requiring the retention and supervision of emails.

According to the Forrester report, “Symantec Enterprise Vault 6.0 is the high scorer in email capture and management, ease of use, range of content types supported, storage flexibility, proven scalability and performance, and market presence… the product is an especially good fit for organizations that are preparing information life-cycle management (ILM) strategies. It is an excellent choice for firms that need a single, integrated solution for mailbox management, regulatory compliance and eDiscovery.”

Symantec added the Enterprise Vault software to its product line in July 2005 when it merged with VERITAS Software Corp. Enterprise Vault was developed by privately-held KVS Inc., which VERITAS acquired in September 2004. Enterprise Vault is part of Symantec’s Email Security and Availability solution, a collection of industry-leading products and services to help customers reduce large volumes of unwanted spam email, stop viruses, automatically manage the lifecycle of older emails through archiving, and help keep their email infrastructures resilient against failure.

“Maximizing email’s value, controlling its rising costs, and reducing vulnerabilities requires organizations to look at email as an end-to-end process, and that demands a strategy that integrates email security with archiving and policy-driven storage management,” said Jeremy Burton, senior vice president, data management group, Symantec Corp. “Organizations also need to explore implementing security and availability policies for other forms of unstructured content, so we’ve expanded Enterprise Vault’s archiving capabilities to include instant messages, file systems and Microsoft SharePoint documents.”
