Quickflix jumps on board with IceTV

Quickflix has announced a deal with IceTV that will allow consumers to rent and buy DVDs with the touch of a button, via their TV.

As Australia's only independent provider of interactive TV listings for free-to-air digital television, IceTV allows users to view and download TV content onto Personal Video Recorders (PVR) through use of its electronic programming guide (EPG), IceGuide.

The new deal will see Quickflix integrate its 16,000-strong DVD database into the IceTV EPG.

An interface similar to Quickflix's online service will be created for the IceGuide, giving users an option to have DVDs delivered to their doorstep or to download content onto PVRs and PC media centres.

Quickflix CEO, Steve Langsford, said the partnership was a valuable way to assist people to migrate to new devices and new delivery formats.

Langsford conceded that the potential for users to illegally download rented content was not protected by any safeguards.

"It's up to the consumers at home what they do with DVDs," he said. "Piracy is hard to deter, but the same scenarios apply with all pirated DVDs."

Langsford expects Quickflix's entire database to be available via IceGuide within the next 12 months.
