Sega buys US game studio Secret Level

Sega will acquire Secret Level to create an internal game development studio

Sega Holdings U.S.A. will acquire U.S. game developer Secret Level for an undisclosed amount, Sega announced Monday.

The acquisition is part of Sega's new move to develop at least some of its games internally, via an in-house development arm, which the company also announced Monday.

The company decided to acquire Secret Level to form the foundation of its own game development studio, rather than build one from scratch, said Simon Jeffery, president and chief operating officer of Sega, in a statement.

Secret Level was an external game developer for Sega prior to the acquisition, with titles including "America's Army: Rise of a Soldier," "Magic: The Gathering -- Battlegrounds," and "Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter."
