Double Layer DVD Media now available from Verbatim

 • 02 July, 2004 14:38

Verbatim, the first media manufacturer to offer DVD+R Double Layer media in Australia is happy to announce that the new DVD+R Double Layer 8.5GB discs are now available from authorised Verbatim resellers throughout Australia.

The Double Layer DVD+R technology was developed by Verbatim in collaboration with Philips and other DVD+RW Alliance members. The new 2.4x DVD+R DL media has already been certified by Philips Format Verification Laboratory as fully compliant with the DVD+R DL standard. To ensure compliance with the Alliance’s DVD+R DL standard, the Philips certification process involves extensive testing of pre-recorded disc parameters, write strategies, and read performance of recorded discs. The certification provides drive manufacturers and end users with the assurance that Verbatim’s new DVD+R DL media delivers broad compatibility with new DVD+R DL drives and existing DVD playback devices.

The new 2.4x DVD+R media nearly doubles the storage capacity on DVD recordable discs from 4.7GB to 8.5GB on a single side while maintaining compatibility with existing DVD video players and DVD-ROM drives. With Verbatim’s new DVD+R DL discs, consumers will be able to record up to four hours of DVD-quality video or up to 16 hours of VHS video quality on a single disc.

Pricing and Availability
Verbatim 8.5GB Double-Layer DVD+R media is now available from authorised resellers. The media is available in single unit jewel case packaging with a recommended retail pricing of $14.95. Verbatim backs the quality of its complete line of DataLifePlus DVD media with a lifetime warranty.
