NetApp Extends Enterprise Data Centre Leadership

New Agreement with Symantec Adds Industry-Leading Heterogeneous SAN Management Capability to the NetApp® Manageability Software Family

Sydney, Australia.— 18 May 2006—Network Appliance, Inc. today announced that it will add heterogeneous SAN management capabilities to its Manageability Software family by reselling a co-branded version of Symantec CommandCentral Storage software in fall 2006.

Today’s announcement closely follows on the heels of the company’s introduction on May 8 of a new line of products and services designed to enhance customers’ data management capabilities in the enterprise data centre. The addition of these heterogeneous SAN data management capabilities further strengthens the value and "completeness" that NetApp offers for data centre management, helping enterprise customers gain better visibility into their multi-vendor storage environment, and providing customers with the ability to maximise their investment in existing storage systems.

This agreement marks an important extension of the strategic relationship between NetApp and Symantec, and reinforces the companies’ intent to jointly address the manageability challenges in mixed-vendor, enterprise SAN implementations. NetApp will leverage Symantec’s leadership position in the storage resource management market, existing integration and certification with NetApp unified storage systems, and a proven enterprise SAN track record to further strengthen customer confidence in NetApp enterprise SAN competency and capabilities.

"Our large-scale enterprise SAN customers view NetApp as a strategic vendor and want us to extend our breadth of solutions to better help them manage the complexity of their heterogeneous environments," said Tom Georgens, executive vice president and general manager of Enterprise Storage Systems at Network Appliance. "Adding heterogeneous SAN management capabilities to our NetApp Manageability Software family is a significant move, allowing us to enhance the value we already provide to data centre customers in multi-vendor environments. Last week NetApp challenged the industry with our intent to attain storage leadership in enterprise data centre environments. This announcement represents another milestone toward that goal."

CommandCentral Storage software and NetApp unified storage systems have a history of tight integration and certification for the benefit of customers. With today’s announcement, customers can expect even deeper interoperability, including the ability to leverage the powerful NetApp flexible volume (FlexVol™) capability that is available with Data ONTAP® 7G software.

"Today Symantec announced the impressive customer adoption that our CommandCentral Storage software has experienced, showing it to be a proven, industry-leading SAN storage management solution that is trusted by data centre customers," said Kris Hagerman, senior vice president at Symantec. "Deepening and broadening our relationship with NetApp validates our position and progress as we strive to ease the manageability of multi-vendor enterprise storage environments. Now more customers will benefit from the ability to combine this SAN proven technology with the NetApp approach to simplifying data management in FC SAN environments."
