Comparison site launches in Australia

Online comparison site, Shopping.com, has launched in Australia with more than 200 local retailers jumping onboard the online shopping ship.

The eBay-owned site allows users to search for, compare prices on, and buy products across 250 categories from national and international retailers. It hosts a range of products from consumer electronics to health aids and toys.

"Shopping.com is one of the most productive online channels for retailers of all sizes and experience levels," said Shopping.com country manager, Shaun Cornelius. "In recent weeks we've made efforts to contact as many of the top online retailers as possible and are pleased to have more than 200 - including a majority of Australia's top online brands."

The site has secured retailers such as Dick Smith, ezyDVD, Deals Direct, Apple, and Dell among others. Australian retailers need not be concerned with a flood of overseas retailers taking control of the online market though, as local sellers make up 90 per cent of the site's participants, Cornelius said.

"It is important we offer the Australian shoppers the choice of products and retailers they are seeking, which is why it's important that we partner with both Australian and overseas retailers," he said.

Prices are displayed in Australian dollars and all tax and shipping costs are shown when shoppers make their purchases. Overseas retailers will be tagged with a flag representing their country of origin.

"We believe we bring a retail shopping experience that - because of our proprietary search and structuring technology, and retailer and product comprehensiveness - provides the best one-stop shop online," he said.
