Hospitality Industry Embraces NetComm Wireless HotSpots

 • 29 May, 2006 11:18

NetComm, a leading Australian provider of communications products and solutions, has claimed that it has one of the largest installation bases of Wireless Internet HotSpots in Australia – including over 100 Wireless HotSpots sold to the Australian hospitality industry in the last six months.

The popularity of NetComm’s Wireless HotSpot products within the industry – including hotels, motels and cafés – lies in the fact that it improves overall guest satisfaction while providing a very profitable revenue source for business owners through broadband charges. The product allows a business to customise access rates and promote the service as its own.

“The availability of reliable, high-speed Internet access is becoming a pre-requisite for today’s traveller – NetComm’s Wireless HotSpots provide customers with a simple device to casually purchase wireless internet without having to be affiliated with a specific ISP or plan,” said David Stewart, Managing Director, NetComm. “Because NetComm’s products are not aligned with an ISP, hoteliers are also given the opportunity for an additional source of revenue, unlike many other wireless access operators in Australia.”

“Since installing the NetComm Wireless HotSpot over a year ago, our guests have provided us with overwhelmingly positive feedback. Providing this service to our guests is particularly important, as we deal with a large majority of corporate travellers who have come to expect access to a reliable high-speed Internet service,” said John Priestly, Proprietor of the Horsham Mid City Motel. “An added advantage we have found since setting up the product lies in the fact that guests are no longer using our business phone lines (PABX lines) to access the Internet – removing the issue of our voice calls being interfered with.”

In addition to the Wireless HotSpots range, NetComm offers to the hospitality industry its range of Internet Protocol Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexers (IP DSLAMs) and Internet Access Controllers (IAC).

An IP DSLAM is a device installed in the basement of a hotel, motel, serviced apartment building or student accommodation to allow simple, cheap distribution of high-speed Internet services to the entire building using the existing phone line infrastructure. The IAC links to the property management system and enables simple control of guest access to broadband services from the front desk and provides automated Internet billing for each individual room.

As the Maserati or BMW of laptops, it would fit perfectly in the hands of a professional needing firepower under the hood, sophistication and class on the surface, and gaming prowess (sports mode if you will) in between.
