NETAPP SHATTERS INDUSTRY RECORD FOR NFS PERFORMANCE

Data ONTAP® GX More Than Triples Previous Benchmark Record; Surpasses 1 Million Operations Per Second

AUSTRALIA, Sydney — 13 June 2006 — Network Appliance, Inc. today announced that it has achieved the first-ever NFS benchmark result of greater than 1 million operations per second, as tested using the Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation (SPEC) SFS97_R1™ benchmark. Harnessing the power of the new NetApp® Data ONTAP GX operating system, 24 FAS6070 nodes worked together under a single namespace to deliver 1,032,461 SPECsfs97_R1.v3 operations per second, with a corresponding overall response time of 1.53 milliseconds. With this announcement, NetApp has now more than tripled the previous performance record for this NFS benchmark. This result illustrates that NetApp has substantially raised the bar in offering massive scale-out performance for customers in high-performance computing (HPC) environments.

Also announced today, Data ONTAP GX is targeted for HPC customers in the areas of energy, entertainment, and electronic design automation. Data ONTAP GX delivers massive levels of scalability and NFS performance in a simple, reliable system that is ideal for HPC. Additional details on Data ONTAP GX are available in a separate release at www.netapp.com/news/press/news_rel_20060612.

“HPC customers have insatiable needs for higher storage system performance,” said Patrick Rogers, vice president of marketing, Products and Alliances at Network Appliance. “Tripling the industry record for NFS performance in our initial release demonstrates the breakthrough capabilities and enormous potential of Data ONTAP GX.”
