Orbital Data Launches Asia-Pacific Operations and Announces New Channel Partnership in Australia; Entry Into Asia-Pacific Market to Tap Into Growing Global Enterprise Demand for WAN Acceleration Solutions

  • 19 June, 2006 15:48

<p>MELBOURNE, Australia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 19, 2006--Orbital Data, a provider of WAN optimization and application acceleration solutions headquartered in Silicon Valley, today announced the launch of international operations in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region as well as the signing of a distribution agreement with TechPlus Distribution, which will be delivering Orbital Data's solutions within Australia. These developments represent a key part of the company's plan to dramatically grow revenues in enterprise and government markets worldwide, while providing profitable opportunities for partners to sell Orbital Data's line of unique WAN performance-boosting solutions. Spearheading Orbital Data's Asia-Pacific expansion will be Ken Gong, Regional Manager for Asia-Pacific, an executive with years of experience in the enterprise networking industry.
"We are excited to bring Orbital Data to the Australian market, and to assist our VAR partners in providing next generation WAN acceleration to the traditionally 'bandwidth poor' Australian market," said Paul Kern, Managing Director of TechPlus Distribution, a distributor based in Bayswater, Australia. "Orbital Data's truly 'transparent' acceleration technique sets their product apart, and is the reason that we chose them over their competitors. Our resellers are looking for a product that is simple to implement, does not require reconfiguration of existing infrastructure, and gives them something new and exciting to present to their existing and prospective customers."
In launching operations in the APAC region, Orbital Data announced the appointment of Ken Gong as regional manager for Asia-Pacific, based in Hong Kong. With more than 20 years of experience in the communications and information technology industry, Gong will be responsible for building the company's channel business in the region. Prior to joining Orbital Data, Gong served for more than eight years in a variety of capacities at Packeteer, including general manager for Greater China, and director of technical services for Asia-Pacific. He is one of the few early pioneers and experts in the APAC region in the fields of application traffic management, bandwidth management, application QoS and WAN optimization technologies. Prior to joining Packeteer, Gong served as pre-sales support manager for carrier business for North Asia at 3Com Corporation. Prior to that, he was technical manager for APAC at RAD Communications. Gong also held various technical and management positions in organizations in Canada, including the Vancouver Stock Exchange and Reuters Canada.
In Australia, Orbital Data has teamed up with TechPlus Distribution, which will be distributing Orbital Data's AutoOptimizer System product line throughout the country. This partnership is part of the company's global Channel Partner Program, which aims at delivering WAN acceleration solutions through partnerships with leading Asian, North American and European resellers. Potential partners include distributors, VARs, integrators, OEMs and service providers -- with a strong focus on partners able to serve enterprise customers and government agencies.
In addition to providing channel partners with industry-leading WAN acceleration solutions, including Orbital Data's unique AutoOptimizer technology, the Orbital Data APAC Channel Partner Program brings a variety of benefits to program participants. These benefits include competitive discounts, technical and sales training, 24x7 support, qualified leads and a partner web portal.
"Today, reseller and OEM channels already make up more than 40% of company revenues," said Dick Pierce, CEO of Orbital Data. "With our entry into the Asia-Pacific market, we have shifted to a global, channel-centric model that enables our partners to provide profitable new solutions and dramatically increases Orbital Data's global reach in the fast-growing market for WAN acceleration solutions. I am confident that with our growing roster of partners such as TechPlus, the international sales management team including Ken Gong based in Hong Kong, and the recent addition of Jim Baker as VP of global sales, we have put the foundation in place to ramp up our sales efforts as we continue to introduce new and innovative products."
