Canadian Broadcasting Corporation Standardises on Interwoven Enterprise Content Management to Improve Editorial Efficiency

Interwoven ECM Replaces Multiple Homegrown Systems at Canada’s National Public Broadcaster

Sydney, Australia, March 1, 2005 – Interwoven, Inc. (Nasdaq: IWOV), provider of Enterprise Content Management (ECM) solutions for business, today announced that CBC.ca, the main English-language website of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) has chosen Interwoven ECM to underpin the production and management of its online news, information and entertainment content. CBC will use Interwoven’s Web Content Management, Digital Asset Management, and Content Intelligence products to accelerate and automate its publishing processes, ultimately improving the end-user experience and increasing site usage.

CBC chose to replace multiple existing home-grown systems with a comprehensive ECM system that would scale to meet future demands for the electronic delivery of news, information and entertainment content with a reliable central repository. Interwoven was selected for its high degree of flexibility, unmatched ease-of-use, and robust scalability to meet the demands of a world-class media organisation.

“As the online division of Canada’s national public broadcaster and the country’s largest journalistic organisation, delivering high-quality programming quickly and reliably to the public is core to our mandate,” said Sue Gardner, senior director, CBC.ca. “We chose Interwoven ECM because we wanted a comprehensive, flexible solution to help us automate our publishing process. Our goal is to free up staff from repetitive tasks so they can focus on their core work—creating high-quality journalism and entertainment products. We also want to allow for more flexibility in how our content is displayed, so we can play big stories and entertainment events more prominently. Overall, the investment in Interwoven will pay off for us by dramatically improving the online experience for our audience.”

Interwoven’s Web Content Management software TeamSite, with its industry-leading ease of use, provides the core of CBC’s new seamless, end-to-end ECM system. The integrated system also includes Interwoven MediaBin software for Digital Asset Management and Interwoven MetaTagger software for Content Intelligence. CBC.ca required that its new ECM system include the flexibility to easily handle a wide range of content sources including audio/visual clips, photos, and a significant amount of original content. Not only will the Interwoven system be able to readily handle a diversity of content, but will also ensure that all content can be easily and effectively indexed by internal and external search engines through the automated classification capabilities of MetaTagger. MetaTagger will automatically classify digital content in MediaBin as well as XML content in TeamSite. This automatic classification will improve CBC.ca’s publishing time, allow for the timed archiving of content, and provide the ability to syndicate content across its regional sections as well as to other news sources.

“It was an important criterion for us that these elements – Web Content Management, Content Intelligence and Digital Asset Management – all work together seamlessly. Otherwise issues such as rights management would have remained cumbersome,” said Claude Galipeau, CBC’s executive director of digital programming and business development, and program director of content management.

“People across Canada, and indeed the world, rely on CBC as a major source of news and information, regardless of whether it is via television, radio or increasingly the Web,” said Kevin Hayden, vice president of corporate marketing, Interwoven. “With the help of Interwoven, CBC is ensuring a seamless user experience by improving the efficiency with which they publish and share information over the Web.”
