NetComm Revolutionises Broadband Set-Up for Consumers and ISPs

<p>NetComm, a leading Australian provider of broadband products and solutions, has unveiled its new ISP Services Suite designed to reduce costs for ISPs and improve the efficiency of connecting new subscribers to broadband. The suite includes five different services, each requiring a decreasing level of interaction required by the end-user customer. It culminates with NetComm’s UltraConnect software application combined with an Automated Provisioning System (APS) – an innovative application that automatically configures a subscriber’s ADSL modem for broadband over the phone line.</p>
<p>“With a growing number of non-technical customers connecting to broadband, the ongoing challenge for ISPs is to minimise costs and maximise profitability per subscriber, yet at the same time deliver a satisfying user experience” said David Stewart, Managing Director, NetComm. “Industry stats show that on average a new subscriber takes somewhere between three to four support calls just to get up and running which makes customer technical support an ISP’s biggest expense.”</p>
<p>The NetComm ISP Services Suite includes five different structured services depending on how much the ISP wants to spend:
1. NetComm “Easy-Config” – a basic software wizard that ships with the hardware device and guides the user through the setup process and provides minimal troubleshooting support
2. Pre-configuration – where NetComm pre-programs the subscriber’s ISP settings in the modem prior to it being delivered to the customer
3. UltraConnect – an advanced software program that comes on the CD with the product which guides a subscriber step-by-step through the installation process. It includes easy to follow videos that show the customer how to install the modem. The program also includes advanced troubleshooting functions to test if the connection is working and also assists the user with email setup and browser configuration.
4. Automated Provisioning Service (APS) only – a server-based application that detects new modems connecting to the ISP’s network and automatically configures the modem with the user name, password and default connection settings over the ADSL line.
5. UltraConnect + APS – a combination of the UltraConnect software program to guide the user through connecting the modem combined with an Automated Provisioning System which configures the subscriber’s settings automatically over the ADSL connection.</p>
<p>UltraConnect and APS represent a breakthrough for ISPs by delivering completely automated configuration of Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) without any intervention required by the user. The application integrates neatly into the ISPs existing network infrastructure and offers customers the ultimate ‘plug and play’ experience with totally seamless CPE configuration.</p>
<p>“By investing in the combined UltraConnect and APS solution, an ISP can dramatically reduce, and in some cases even eliminate technical support calls – which instantly turns what was a major cost into direct bottom-line profit,” said David Stewart. “It can also help minimise churn (customers changing providers) by delivering an initial positive experience that makes it ‘too hard to change’.”</p>
<p>The automated configuration significantly reduces the amount of time a customer spends in setting up a modem which allows the ISP to speed up deployment and commence a faster billing cycle. The NetComm APS solution will also allow for advanced configurations (such as port forwarding) and other optional live updates to be auto-provisioned.</p>
<p>NetComm’s UltraConnect + APS solution delivers the provisioning in three simple steps:</p>
<p>1. The end user subscribes to an ISP and is provisioned with an ADSL service on their phone line. The subscriber’s account is also established on the ISP’s database.</p>
<p>2. A NetComm modem router is logistically ‘paired’ with the subscriber using the MAC address as the unique identifier and the details are uploaded to the ISP database. The CPE is then delivered to the end user.</p>
<p>3. The subscriber connects the modem router to the computer and ADSL line (with the UltraConnect program instructing how to do it). Upon connection, the auto provisioning occurs as the MAC address is recognised and matched with the end user’s account via the APS facility. The settings and configuration are securely uploaded to the customer’s modem directly from the ISP and the hardware is instantly enabled for Internet use.</p>
