Toshiba introduces gigabeat - portable ‘media centre’

<p>Sydney, 6 September 2006: Toshiba (Australia) Pty Limited Information Systems Division (ISD) today launched its new gigabeat S series of portable, digital audio and video players that allow users to store and watch recorded TV programs, video and photos, as well as listen to music*.</p>
<p>The gigabeat uses Microsoft Windows Portable Media Center software, enabling simple management and sharing of content, including with Windows XP Media Center Edition PCs and Xbox 360s:</p>
<p>­Consumers can watch TV shows and movies on their gigabeat that have been recorded via their Windows Media Center PCs.</p>
<p>­Consumers can listen to music via their Xbox 360 by plugging the gigabeat into the games console, which will then display song information automatically.</p>
<p>­The gigabeat can be directly connected to most popular digital cameras so consumers can store and view photos on their gigabeat, while syncing back to their notebook or PC for permanent storage.</p>
<p>Available in either white (S30) or black (S60), the gigabeat S comes with a 30GB or 60GB hard drive, both with a 2.4-inch QVGA LCD colour screen with 320 x 240 resolution and more than 65,536 colours.</p>
<p>Other features of the gigabeat S series include:</p>
<p>FM radio tuner;</p>
<p>­Extended battery life (12 hours of audio and up to 2.5 hours of video);</p>
<p>­Familiar Windows Mobile software navigation;</p>
<p>Compatible with popular media file formats, including .wma, .wmv, .wav, JPEG, and MP3;</p>
<p>­The ability to view videos and photos in normal or landscape mode; and
A/V cables and output supplied as standard for connection to most televisions, so users can watch downloaded movies, videos and photos.</p>
