NETGEAR meets demand for secure, simple, cost-effective remote access solution

Sydney, Australia (September 11, 2006) – NETGEAR (Nasdaq: NTGR) has launched a virtual networking product that crashes through the price and manageability barrier for small and medium-sized businesses.

The NETGEAR SSL312 ProSafe SSL (Secure Socket Layer) VPN (Virtual Private Network) Concentrator 25 enables employees to log into the company network securely from any computer, anytime, anywhere, via an easy-to-use Web interface.

The appliance is easy to install, troubleshoot and manage within a small IT department, and will provide secure access to a business network for up to 25 employees at one time.

The SSL312 does not interfere with existing firewalls. The strength of this product lies in its simple installation and configuration -- users are not required to install software to facilitate access and each VPN portal can be personalised to match functions to the individual employee’s role, access needs, and technical knowledge.

“Previously, SSL VPN solutions have been out of reach for small and medium-sized businesses due to the complexity of installation and configuration, cumbersome management and initial purchase cost -- the total cost of ownership was just too high,” said NETGEAR Asia Pacific vice president Ian McLean.

“As a result, smaller businesses have been forced to either provide remote access through less-than-secure means -- placing the business infrastructure in jeopardy -- or avoid providing remote access altogether. This SSL312 provides an effective solution to the challenges of remote access and is completely user-friendly.”

The SSL312 enables access to a business network from a home PC, Internet kiosk, retail business centre or PDA and does not require employees to install supporting software. The SSL312’s flexibility is due to its platform independence, as users connect to the business network via web browsers such as Microsoft Internet Explorer and Apple Safari.

“Faster broadband speeds, expanded wireless access and the proliferation of Internet-enabled devices such as PDAs have improved the options for people wishing to work outside the boundaries of an office environment. These technology trends are pushing SSL VPN to the top of many IT department wish-lists of must have infrastructure due to the potential impact on productivity,” explained McLean.

Other features of the ProSafe SSL VPN Concentrator 25 include:
- Two 10/100 Ethernet ports and a console port for remote management.
- Interoperability with third party firewalls and NETGEAR’s ProSafe line of VPN firewalls to provide a complete security solution.
- Integration with a broad range of user repositories such as Microsoft Active Directory, LDAP and RADIUS.
- Business class security through the use of encryption algorithms.
- Granular policy configuration tools to deliver extensive logging support and diagnostics, giving IT administrators complete control over remote network access.
- Easy-to-use Web interface ensuring privacy and security requirements are maintained by providing automatic cache clean up after session termination.

The SSL312 ProSafe SSL VPN Concentrator 25 (RRP$749) will be available from NETGEAR’s value-added resellers mid-September. Backed by 24x7 technical support, it comes with NETGEAR’s standard three-year warranty. Increased technical support is also available with NETGEAR's advanced warranty.
