Water Corporation Awards Alphawest IP Telephony Contract

 • 13 September, 2006 11:32

IT Services business Alphawest has been awarded a contract to manage one of Western Australia’s largest IP Telephony implementations for the Water Corporation of WA.

Alphawest will replace the Water Corporation’s existing telephony system with an IP Telephony platform of over 2,600 Cisco System handsets, which includes an upgrade to the Water Corporation’s existing core IT network infrastructure.

A key goal for the Water Corporation in moving to an IP Telephony solution was to enable greater flexibility in call handling features and employee mobility whilst marrying this additional functionality with the corporation’s telephone excellence standards. A key business measure of the project’s success is the extent of transparent implementation and adoption of the technology by end users.

“The Water Corporation requires a solution that is innovative, technologically advanced and in line with future market trends,” said Bernard Sloan, Operations Manager, Information Services Branch at the Water Corporation. “The replacement and upgrade strategy proposed by Alphawest focuses on upgrading most departmental telephony related systems and includes local support, ongoing service management and transparent disaster recovery for business continuity.”

“The Water Corporation selected Alphawest based on its extensive knowledge, experience and success in delivering complex Information & Communications Technology (ICT) systems, such as IP Telephony, into large enterprise environments,” said Mr Sloan. “We are pleased to be working with Alphawest and look forward to continuing our existing relationship with them as a trusted and competent solutions provider.”

The IP Telephony project commenced in early 2006 with two ‘greenfield’ sites being successfully migrated to an IP Telephony platform, which would have otherwise placed significant capacity constraints onto the Water Corporation’s existing PABX system. The deployment of IP Telephony to these two sites created the opportunity for the Corporation to assess the capabilities of IP Telephony (albeit opting for limited functionality) and to also assess the end user impact of this new technology. "The outcomes of this project were excellent given the tight timeframes. Alphawest set a very high standard in terms of project delivery, which has thus far carried on through into the delivery of the enterprise project,” said Mr Sloan.

Steve McNally, General Manager – WA, Alphawest said, “Alphawest is equipped to deliver one of the state’s largest IP Telephony implementations due to its extensive experience providing similar solutions to companies such as Woodside, Nautronix, GRD Minproc and Coventry Group Ltd. Working in a close partnership with the Water Corporation, we are able to provide ongoing expert advice to ensure the benefits and long term cost savings of this technology can be realised by the business both immediately and into the future.”
