Industry first product delivers fast, high-quality VoIP connection with a choice of service providers

Sydney, Australia (September 11, 2006) – NETGEAR (Nasdaq: NTGR) has launched a product that makes it easy for the everyday consumers to make cheaper phone calls using VoIP (Voice-over-IP) technology and their home computer.

This industry-first gateway from NETGEAR takes minutes to install and is combined with an ADSL2+ modem for a fast Internet connection to enable the same voice quality as a normal phone call. The gateway is also combined with a wireless router that allows users to roam around the home with their handset while making calls.

The gateway has an in-built firewall to protect home networks from Internet nasties and is configurable for VoIP service providers engin, Broadband Phone and MyNetFone, giving users the benefit of choosing a provider which best suits their needs.

“VoIP has never been easier. This product delivers a secure broadband wireless network with VoIP in the one box and users have the flexibility of choosing from a range of VoIP providers,” said NETGEAR Asia pacific vice president, Ian McLean.

“The gateway takes all of the confusion out of VoIP, making it completely accessible to all consumers, regardless of their level of IT knowledge. Users have access to all the essential features needed to set up a network with VoIP without a clutter of unnecessary features.”

The gateway, available as the DG834GV Integrated ADSL2+ Modem and Wireless Router with Voice, is easily configured with an online help manual, and the Smart Wizard escorts the user through the setup process, vastly simplifying installation.

The speed of the gateway enables consumers to download large files with ease and conduct a videoconference, as well as play and distribute high-definition digital movies, photos and MP3s instantly.

The DG834GV incorporates VoIP, an ADSL2+ modem, router, 10/100 wired LAN switch, 802.11g wireless access point and SPI double firewall, giving users an all-in-one integrated voice gateway.

Other features of the DG834GV include:

- A PSTN/FXO port, which enables fallback to a regular phone line for emergency calling or in the instance of network outages or power failures.

- An inbuilt VPN pass-through to facilitate safe connection to another network and sustain four VoIP lines simultaneously.

- Network Address Translation (NAT), shielding networked devices from intruders and potential attacks; and Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) and Denial of Service (DoS) attack prevention, to avert possible threats by scanning all incoming traffic.
