Price Changes Give Australian Customers More Value

Microsoft Australia reduces retail prices for Office XP and stand-alone applications and announces pricing for the products in the Microsoft Office System

Sydney — 28 August, 2003 — Microsoft Australia today announced price changes to several products in the Microsoft® Office XP family and released pricing for the products in the Microsoft Office System. The Office XP price changes follow similar price reductions announced in other countries and will be effective from September 1. In addition, due to the continued strength of the Australian dollar, all current Microsoft products will be reduced from that date.
More Choices for Price-Sensitive Retail Customers
Microsoft Australia is reducing the recommended retail price for Full Package Product (FPP) of Microsoft Office XP Standard from $1072 to $699 and Microsoft Office XP Professional from $1288 to $899, purchased through retail outlets. This will result in a net saving of approximately 30 per cent. In addition, the recommended retail price of FPP Word 2002, Excel 2002, PowerPoint® 2002 and Access 2002 will fall to $427 from $694 per application, a saving of approximately 38 per cent. As a result, retail customers will save between $267 and $390 (inclusive of GST) on the estimated retail price, depending on the product purchased (reseller pricing will vary).*

Microsoft Office System Pricing

Below are the Australian recommended prices for the 2003 release of products, servers and solutions in the Microsoft Office System. Retail availability in Australia is October 22 but a technology guarantee is effective from September 1. The technology guarantee will enable retail customers that buy Office XP after that date to get an upgrade to the equivalent Office 2003 version for shipping and handling costs.

In addition to the retail options, Microsoft customers can purchase Microsoft Office System products through Microsoft volume licensing programs (for as few as five desktops) and with the purchase of a new computer (OEM). The products in the Microsoft Office System will be added to the volume price list on September 1.
