NEC and NetComm announce partnership to design and manufacture specialised business grade IP Telephone

 • 23 October, 2006 15:00

Potential worldwide use with new NEC UNIVERGE IP-PBX business telephone system

Australian broadband technology specialist NetComm (ASX: NTC) has announced a partnership with market-leader NEC Business Solutions Pty Ltd, to develop and manufacture the first fully approved third-party SIP-compatible digital telephone to operate with NEC’s UNIVERGE SV7000 IP Telephony solutions.

The NetComm V95 IP Telephone built by NetComm’s Product Customisation Division, uses the popular Voice over IP standard Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) and will be used by NEC as a handset device for its UNIVERGE SV7000 IP Telephony solution.

“NEC Corporation are a world market leader in telephony and with the introduction of their UNIVERGE IP-PBX range, they were looking for a business-grade telephone that could support the many sophisticated functions,” said David Stewart, Managing Director, NetComm. “The NetComm Product Customisation Division was commissioned to build the V95 for NEC to deliver a standardised product on the SIP platform and to capitalise on the powerful features in the UNIVERGE SV7000 IP telephony solution.”

Evaluation samples of the V95 have also been sent to several other countries where NEC operates, to review the phone’s compatibility for overseas use. It is yet to be determined which overseas countries will ultimately make use of the V95, but NetComm are extremely optimistic of broad adoption worldwide.

About IP Telephony Technology

IP Telephony is increasingly used as the next generation replacement for older traditional PABX and key telephone systems. Using VoIP technology, each phone extension communicates with the PBX using standard computer network cabling. IP Telephony offers a business many more features than a standard analogue phone system including integration with its computer network.

The development project which commenced in 2005, has delivered a stylish and feature-rich business-grade phone that has satisfied both NEC and NetComm’s rigorous alpha testing standards. Beta field testing is currently underway in Australia with production shipments expected to commence in September 2006.

NEC’s UNIVERGE SV7000 IP Telephony solution is designed for large scale business VoIP deployments (200+ phones), with the NetComm handset designed to deliver the user a wide range of advanced call-handling functions. NEC also provided IP telephony solutions designed on the same platform for smaller installations, with the V95 built to accommodate these future models.

“Partnering with NEC Business Solutions gives the NetComm V95 huge potential both locally and internationally and we are extremely confident it will result in substantial sales revenues. We have ensured a scaleable production facility to accommodate high level demand,” stated David Stewart.
