Network Appliance Gains Market Share in External Storage Market

 • 09 June, 2004 09:17

Only company to achieve both sequential and year-over-year growth

Network Appliance, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTAP) has announced it is continuing to gain market share in the large external storage market, which includes storage area networks (SANs), network-attached storage (NAS), direct-attached storage (DAS), open systems and legacy mainframes.

According to Gartner’s ‘2Q4 Update: Global RAID Disk Storage Forecast Scenarios, 2004–2006 report,’1 NetApp was the only company in the top eight to demonstrate growth both sequentially – by 7.7 per cent - and year over year – by 24.4 per cent. This allowed the company to increase its market share from 4.5 per cent in 2003 to 5.4 per cent in Q1 2004.

“Customers are increasingly looking to NetApp for help deploying business-critical, sophisticated, data-intensive enterprise applications such as customer relationship management (CRM) and enterprise resource planning (ERP),” said Patrick Rogers, Vice President of Marketing at Network Appliance. “These applications require a highly scalable, high-performance platform that can be easily managed in a large data infrastructure for fast, reliable access to mission-critical data and high-performance application storage. As we continue to grow the business, we are also ensuring we work with our customers to expand our product portfolio to provide simple, easy-to-manage storage infrastructure solutions in both NAS and SAN, to meet their growing storage requirements.”
