• 20 March, 2007 13:10

New “dish” acquisitions boost international satellite comms

NewSat Limited (ASX: NWT), Australia’s leading independent satellite services provider, announced today that it has acquired further major communication assets enabling the company to increase its capacity and effectiveness in broadcasting around the globe.

In a series of recent transactions NewSat has acquired five earth stations from the world’s largest satellite corporation Intelsat and two antennae from Channel Nine Networks in Perth for undisclosed sums.

The earth stations and antennae will augment NewSat’s global strategy to provide corporations and governments with access to a large and diverse range of satellites through the use of NewSat’s multiple communications options.

“More hardware on the ground, talking to more satellites in the sky, provides customers and potential customers with a better choice. Better choice leads to a less expensive and more appropriate solutions and ultimately more customers for NewSat,” said NewSat CEO, Adrian Ballintine. “They also assist in positioning NewSat to bid for larger contracts on an international scale.

“The World Teleport Authority research indicates that each antenna and earth station is able to generate up to $2million revenue per annum. NewSat’s recent purchases will provide the capability for sales growth and profit,” he said.

New Zealand and South-East Asia will especially be early beneficiaries of NewSat’s increased communication capability. The company has been evaluating the provision of services in these regions for the past 12 months and the new assets enable NewSat to deliver sophisticated solutions to areas previously disenfranchised through their location.

NewSat owns and operates its own teleports in Adelaide and Perth. These new assets will be added to the impressive NewSat facilities in Bayswater, Perth.
