Project Arcade: Build Your Own Arcade Machine

Based on previous experience from building my own arcade cabinet, recreation of a classic arcade system can be a tricky affair. A great deal of information is available on the Internet from other people's examples, but never in one centralised location. This is where this book comes into the picture.

Project Arcade: Build Your Own Arcade Machine

Project Arcade: Build Your Own Arcade Machine is an excellent, comprehensive resource for building any type of arcade system. Written by the author of the well-known arcade Web site Build Your Own Arcade Controls (www.arcadecontrols.com), John St.Clair has provided a portable resource that complements the Web site with tips, tricks and hints easily at hand. The book goes into great detail on what you want your arcade system to achieve for you. From planning to budgeting, construction of the cabinet shell, choosing the interface controls and their layout, installing the PC, choosing and loading the software, monitor types and their advantages, plus good tips on applying artwork for aesthetic purposes.

If you're having trouble coming up with your own design or finding links to other people's examples, a CD-ROM included with the book offers a wealth of information. For each chapter in the book which contains pictures, full colour images are provided on the CD, along with other sample images for your perusal. Some arcade aficionados have even provided their own full cabinet diagrams, to scale, in PDF file format.

After reading this book, I wished it was available to help me during my project! This book would have saved me a lot of grief and/or frustration during my own arcade construction. The perfect tool for any budding arcade builder.

I need power and lots of it. As a Front End Web developer anything less just won’t cut it which is why the MSI GT75 is an outstanding laptop for me. It’s a sleek and futuristic looking, high quality, beast that has a touch of sci-fi flare about it.
