Accessing and sharing iTunes just got easier

A music service called nuTsie enables easy access of your entire iTunes library from a mobile phone. A free public beta of the Melodeo service is available from the nuTsie site (www.nutsie.com).

The nuTsie servise allows users to shuffle through their iTunes collection in high quality on their mobile phones or on the internet.

A variety of mobile phone models will support nuTsie with no device upgrade needed, and Medlodeo will be extending this selection throughout the year. nuTsie is built around Melodeo's low-bandwidth, high-quality mobile-streaming technology. Consumers will not need to sync their mobiles to a computer, download music or have the problem of limited storage capacity on their phones.

Instead of downloading iTunes song files nuTsie references a consumer's iTunes library and playlists, making tracks available for streaming from nuTsie's servers via the internet. This avoids taking up storage space on your phone with music. The nuTsie service's streaming technology also ensures all artists, record labels and music publishers are paid for songs used.

Another web-based service currently in beta, Lala.com, has also enhanced the iTunes experience by making it possible to access your library online for free. This works in a similar way to nuTsie by allowing you to upload the music on your hard drive to its servers that you can then listen to from any computer with an internet connection.

The service is completely legal and even allows you to share your music playlists with others, although some restrictions apply. It also avoids the problems of viruses that some experience when sharing music on P2P sites.

Only Warner Music Group tracks are available at present on the site and its success depends on the participation of the other major music labels. Although any digital music can be hosted on the site, it is designed only for downloading to iPods or purchased as a CD.
