Wii sales pass 100, 000 in Australia

After securing, and holding the Australian record for the biggest launch of a video game system in history, the Nintendo Wii has now officially broken through the 100,000 install-base mark. This makes it the fastest selling home console to reach 100,000 by a wide margin; comfortably beating Microsoft's rival console the Xbox 360.

Ever since the release of the NES console in 1985, Nintendo has continually revolutionized the way people play games with constant feats of innovation. They ushered in both the D-pad and analogue stick, which were subsequently adopted by their competitors. At an RRP of just $399.95, the Wii is the cheapest next-gen console currently on the market and it features the unique Wii remote and Nunchuck controllers that have pioneered motion-sensitive gameplay. This innovative and exciting control interface has opened up video games to a whole new audience.

"We are pleased that Wii has achieved this benchmark, but we are ecstatic that it attained this whilst also reaching new audiences and expanding the scope of our entire industry" explains Rose Lappin, Director of Sales and Marketing. "We promised we would bring gaming to the masses, I think this is proof that we are heading in the right direction".
