Dimension Data to Grow Consulting Practice with Industry Expert Appointment

 • 15 August, 2007 09:00

- Former Gartner Consulting VP Dr Wissam Raffoul appointed General Manager of Consulting at Dimension Data -

Dimension Data announced today it has appointed Dr Wissam Raffoul as General Manager of Consulting, where he will head up the company’s national consulting practice in Australia.

Dr Raffoul brings a rich heritage of more than 25 years professional experience to Dimension Data though IT consulting expertise and academic credentials as a former outsourcing advisor, and also as a senior IT executive in a range of infrastructure and IT service management (ITSM) roles.

Before joining Dimension Data, Dr Raffoul was a vice president with Gartner Consulting APAC, based in Sydney. He joined Gartner with the analyst firm’s acquisition of META Group in April 2005.

Dr Raffoul specialises in providing strategic advice to clients on transforming their IT departments into service organisations - with particular expertise in organisational strategies, service level management, process optimisation, outsourcing strategies and enterprise systems management solutions.

In this role, he will be responsible for expanding Dimension Data’s consulting capability and aligning the consulting business across all lines of business.

He will also focus on developing and delivering high-value consulting services aimed at optimising the performance and architecture of clients’ IT and business environments.

Dr Raffoul said: “I am looking forward to contributing to the growth of Dimension Data’s consulting business and working closely with the team to develop the company’s consulting services across its core lines of business.”

He will also act in an advisory role to clients, who are seeking the latest thinking on how to address key challenges in strategic sourcing, such as whether or not to outsource, how to manage quality of service and how to get maximum value from an outsourcing team.

“Organisations cannot implement business process improvements without a technology optimisation component behind it,” Dr Raffoul said.

“However, Dimension Data’s consulting arm is in a strong position to help companies in the sourcing cycle innovate with their technology by helping them to understand their own business architecture, and also identify single points of failure in their current environment in order to improve their IT infrastructure.”

Steve Nola, Dimension Data’s Australian CEO said: “We are honoured to have Wissam on board to lead the growth of our consulting business, and for the incredible industry experience he brings to Dimension Data and our clients.”

“His appointment to this newly-created role is also testament to the growing importance of IT for organisations, as part of their overall business strategy and performance.”

During his tenure at META Group, Dr Raffoul authored and issued various research publications, covering service delivery processes related to centre-of-excellence models, managing outsourcing vendors, outsourcing benchmarks, outsourcing maturity models, IT procurement evolution, running consulting business, generating service value, supply/demand models, IT process integration, e-business management, service level management and governance. In addition, he developed an accelerated approach for value creation.

He was also granted META Group’s worldwide most valuable research award for 2001, the best Asia/Pacific analysts in 2002 and a high achiever award in 2003.

Before joining META Group in November 1998, Dr Raffoul was a managing consultant for Hewlett-Packard Consulting, heading the IT Service Management (ITSM) practice in Australasia.

Previously, Dr Raffoul worked in various infrastructure manager positions, reporting to the CIO at a number of large organisations in government, and in the financial and petrochemical industries.

Dr Raffoul has a master's degree in Information Technology and a PhD in Information Technology, both from PARIS XI University, France.
