Excom offers $14K IT scholarship

IT needs an image change

IT training provider Excom Education is offering a $14,000 scholarship for its EXpress IT program to help foster careers in IT.

The scholarship will enable the successful applicant to do the program with a guaranteed job in the industry within four months of completion of their studies, according to Excom.

National manager of Excom's EXpress IT program Cassandra Ashworth said the goal of the scholarship is to boost some of the interest that has been lacking in the IT industry and inspire people to look at IT as a path to a progressive and rewarding career with real opportunities.

"This scholarship will equip the successful applicant with the practical skills and hands-on training, so that they have the real-world experience that employers are seeking," Ashworth said.

According to the Oliver Job Index published in February, demand from employers seeking IT professionals increased by 62 percent over the last financial year.

Regional director for CompTIA IT Pro Edward Mandla said IT is a "powerhouse industry" which contributed up to 85 percent of productivity growth in the Australian manufacturing sector in the last two decades.

"If you are looking for modern work practices, teamwork, mental stimulation and rapid career progression - come on over," Mandla said.

Excom's Ashworth said it is an excellent time to launch a career in IT as the scope for employment and career opportunities is growing rapidly and will continue with technology paving our future.

Applications for the Excom scholarship close on September 30.
