“Victoria’s Largest Government Department choose MySource Matrix – Open Source CMS”

 • 28 August, 2007 15:15

The Victorian Department of Human Services (DHS) have confirmed MySource Matrix, supplied by Squiz Pty Ltd, as their corporate standard web content management system (CMS) for use across all their business divisions after a successful pilot project. DHS is Victoria’s largest government agency directly employing over 11,000 people and with a total human services budget of approximately $10.5 billion in 2006-07.

“This is a significant win for Squiz and Open Source Software in Australia” says John-Paul Syriatowicz, Managing Director of Squiz. “It’s a clear illustration that home-grown, professionally supported open source solutions can satisfy complex business needs and at the same time save the taxpayer money. DHS were not specifically looking for an open source solution; rather they chose MySource Matrix because it proved to be the best solution”.

Squiz won the pilot project late last year after a highly competitive 12 month long tender process. The pilot involved DHS assisted by Squiz undertaking six migration exercises including the Office for Children web site and five sub-domains of Victorian Government Health Information web site. Migration affected three DHS business divisions and represented a cross section of the complexity and varying requirements of the DHS web presence. The purpose of the pilot was to establish whether the preferred CMS product and vendor could roll out the solution to all DHS business divisions.

DHS plan to migrate all web content, Internet, Intranet and Extranets, into MySource Matrix. Squiz will continue to deliver specialised implementation, migration analysis, training, design and consultative services as required.

DHS Web Consolidation and Management Programme Manager Ian Rogers commented “Stakeholder expectations of government web sites are increasing, and so DHS decided to procure a modern web content management system to provide a sound basis for web initiatives. There are many good web content management systems on the market, several of which could probably have formed the basis of a solution for us. What has particularly impressed us about MySource Matrix during the pilot process has been the excellent value for money that it represents and the relative ease of integration and adoption…. Also the configurability of the solution and our ability to directly influence product development enable us to tailor the solution closely to our business needs without using a non-standard version of the software.”

The news also coincides with the announcement that the Victorian Government has included Squiz in their eServices Panel of suppliers. The panel is comprised of qualified suppliers that specialise in a wide range of ICT services. This appointment makes it simpler for Victorian Government Departments to procure professional services from Squiz.
