Toshiba HD DVD hardware and software now at JB Hi-Fi

<p>In a move that reflects increasing industry and market support for the HD DVD format, leading consumer electronics retailer JB Hi-Fi will now be selling Toshiba HD DVD players as well as a wide range of HD DVD film titles in its stores around the country.</p>
<p>The HD DVD Consortium believes Australians shouldn’t be restricted by a perceived “format war” and instead be given access to the full gamut of high definition (HD) films, games, players and hardware in all retail outlets. Customers wanting to upgrade to the pure intensity of HD entertainment now have more choice as JB Hi-Fi stores offer both HD DVD movies and hardware.</p>
<p>“HD DVD players now start at an affordable $499 and, coupled with an extensive list of HD DVD software titles available, brings the High Definition experience to more consumers. JB Hi-Fi’s decision to adopt HD DVD ensures consumers emerge as the winner as their choice of hardware and software is broadened,” said Mark Whittard, General Manager of Toshiba ISD on behalf of the HD DVD Consortium.</p>
<p>Retailer JB Hi-Fi previously stocked the full line of Toshiba notebooks including HD DVD models, and now its range of HD DVD products extends to include Toshiba HD DVD players and HD DVD software from Paramount Home Entertainment, DreamWorks, Warner Home Video and Universal Pictures. Box office hits will include action titles such as Transformers and Bourne Ultimatum, comedy with Knocked Up and Blades of Glory, and the imminent Shrek the Third all exclusive to the HD format. Christmas will see the availability of family favourite, Harry Potter, and popular TV series Heroes Season 1 and Star Trek – The Original Series.</p>
<p>The recent price reduction on Toshiba HD DVD players and upcoming marketing campaigns for new release HD DVD titles, coupled with the format’s leading technologies and interactive features, means HD DVD continues to raise the bar in consumer entertainment. Global support for HD DVD is strong with the latest figures from the United States showing 54% of all stand-alone HD player purchases are in the HD DVD format and in Europe, HD DVD has 69% market share.</p>
<p>“In Australia, Toshiba launched its AV business in July this year, including the full HD DVD player line-up, together with the local formation of the HD DVD Consortium. Since then, HD DVD has experienced many milestone successes, such as Paramount’s move to join Universal in exclusively producing HD DVD films, and now JB Hi-Fi’s decision to sell HD DVD hardware and software,” continued Mark Whittard. “The HD DVD Consortium is excited that this latest announcement adds to HD DVD’s momentum and market share gain.”</p>
