Alphawest Services Pty Ltd - a leading Australian ICT Services provider to the government, legal, educational and business sectors - was presented with two major awards from VMware, which recognises Alphawest as one of the leading premier partners for VMware virtualization technology.

The first award presented to Alphawest was the VMware Top Technical Achievement Award for Asia Pacific at the annual virtualization industry event, VMworld 2007, which was attended by over 1500 VMware partners in San Francisco in the US in September. In addition, Alphawest received a second VMware Partner Technical Achievement Award for Australia and New Zealand presented in Sydney, Australia during VMware Partner Day.

With over 30 certified staff Alphawest has been appointed a Premier Partner of VMware - the highest level within the VMware VIP Partner Program - in recognition of its advanced virtualization practices and high-quality consulting services. Alphawest has also gained status as a VMware Accredited Consulting Partner.

VMware is the world's leading provider of virtualization solutions for x86-based servers and desktops. Virtualization technology separates software from the hardware, allowing a single computer to run multiple operating systems and applications, delivering significant improvements in efficiency, availability, flexibility and manageability. It enables the pooling and sharing of IT resources - including servers, storage, file systems and networks - and allows those resources to be dynamically allocated across an organisation's applications and processes.

"Gartner predicts that the total number of virtual machines deployed in the world is expected to grow from 540,000 at the end of last year to more than 4 million by 2009," said Ian Smith, General Manager, Technology Solutions Alphawest.

"In Australia, a report by Springboard Research published this month estimated that server virtualization is accounting for as much as 30 percent of new product acquisitions.

"We are seeing customers who adopt virtualization achieve Return on Investment (ROI) in as little as seven months. The savings of budget and resources that virtualization enables, through improved management of servers and IT infrastructure, also complements the growing demand for 'green' computing solutions in Australia. Other benefits include improved visibility of your IT infrastructure, enhanced disaster recovery and business continuity, and improved productivity for both systems administrators and software developers," he said.

"Alphawest's impressive technical understanding of VMware's software range and their investment in VMware Certified Professionals positions them as one on the leaders in the services provision of virtualization solutions in the local market," said David Blackman, Director, Partner Organisation, VMware Australia and New Zealand.

Customers are turning to Alphawest when they want to implement Virtual Infrastructure which allows them to increase productivity and create 'green' data centres," he added.

Adrian Sharkey has national responsibility for creating and executing strategy for the Alphawest Technology Solutions Systems & Storage Group, including virtualization. Adrian is also on the ANZ Board of Directors for 2007 of the SNIA (Storage Networking Industry Association), a global not-for-profit made up of more than 420 active member companies and close to 7,100 active individual members spanning the storage industry.
